Anyone know this novel or author?

I hope someone can help me remember the name of a novel and its author. In 1993, I read a detective/whodunnit that I believe was written by a woman. It was about a mystery that occurred in or near a university setting. I seem to recall a professor working with a group of students to solve the mystery. The format was mass market paperback.

 

For a while, I thought the author might have been Patricia Cornwell, but I haven't found anything by her that remotely resembles the story I remember.

 

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Lake of Dead Languages by Carol Goodman?  That's set in a remote college.

Thank you, Madeleine. Probably not that one, as it appears to be published later than the novel I read. But I will see whether it could be some other earlier title by the same author.
