Ben Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Found my Davinci Code bookmark when I was tidying the other day.. thought I'd lost it but I'm happy now because I really like it. Quote
BlackStar Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I have just bought myself some magnetic bookmarks with pics and quotes from Winnie the Pooh. I love buying stuff like that. I think if it wasn't for the fact that i want my money to buy the books on my list i'd buy a bookmark everytime i entered a book store! I love using magnetic book marks as they dont fall out. I will confess I sometimes turn down the corners but only on my own books :S Quote
chrysalis_stage Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Bookmarks I am using atm are - a purple ribbon with roses on, a puffin bookmark my bf got me the other month and an inbuilt red ribbon the book comes with Quote
Peacefield Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Lately I've just been using free bookmarks from the library or 1/2 Price Books. My cat loves playing with them for some reason and has gotten into the habit of biting the corners, lol. Quote

I am using a magnetic Winnie the Pooh at the moment (so cute). The magnetic ones are so practical and like someone else pointed out they don't drop out like the more flimsy ones. However I do have a bit of an urge to collect the leather ones when I am on holiday and have well ......more than I should have. Quote

SueB Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Today I went into Sussex stationers and came out with 4 books and a Miss Chatterbox bookmark Quote
Chrissy Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I'm currently using a beautiful card with a purple flower print on it that I received from a friend. Using it keeps her close. Quote
Fi. Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I've just got some gorgeous magnetic Nightmare Before Christmas bookmarks - just need to track down a Bagpuss one I saw somewhere now Quote
BlackStar Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Laura!! That is book murder!! I know, I will stop, but I need to get a really good bookmark. Quote
Stephanie2008 Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I would never turn book pages down I get really annoyed if the spine gets creased or wrinkled. I get quite possessive about the state of my books so I always use bookmarks or receipts or scrap paper, anything to not damage the paper Quote
Adam Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I would never turn book pages down I get really annoyed if the spine gets creased or wrinkled. I get quite possessive about the state of my books so I always use bookmarks or receipts or scrap paper, anything to not damage the paper I am the same way! Quote

I get quite possessive about the state of my books so I always use bookmarks or receipts or scrap paper, anything to not damage the paper I always use a bookmark but my spines are always creased You can tell which books I've read and which ones I haven't just by looking at my bookshelves. Quote
amethyst Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Yeah I'm pretty much the same, I always use a bookmark, or something that stops me from ruining the pages, however my spines to crease, which annoys me but I don't know how to stop it. I can't say I've ever seen magnetic bookmarks, sounds stupid, but how do they work? Quote
Ben Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 It's really hard to read a book without creasing the spine. That's usually bound to happen.. but I would avoid turning down corners at all costs. I'd rather remember the page or use a scrap of paper. Quote

I remember years ago borrowing a book from my mum and turning down the corner of the pages.....thought she was gonna strangle me Today I have invested in a lovely bookmark Quote
Stephanie2008 Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 It is really hard not to crease the spine, but I try so hard not to. I just try to not open the books too much. I don't know if that makes me really obsessive (ok it does) but I really hate when the books look like they've been read Quote
BookJumper Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I remember years ago borrowing a book from my mum and turning down the corner of the pages.....thought she was gonna strangle meIf I did that to one of my mum's books... *shudders at the very thought*! I used to turn corners down when I was smaller (before the book collector in me grew up), of the books that were second-hand and tatty and ancient. Now the book collector is big and strong, I won't turn even those - I'd rather strive and fail to remember the page number! Quote
Tikkititi Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I'm currently using a beautiful card with a purple flower print on it that I received from a friend. Using it keeps her close. That made me smile, Chrissy. We're so close to our books, aren't we; what better way to be reminded of a friend. Quote
Kylie Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I get really annoyed if the spine gets creased or wrinkled. Me too. My partner is talking about borrowing one of my books soon and I know he is already terrified of incurring my wrath if he breaks the spine. I want to cry sometimes when I watch him read with the book opened so far (his own book, of course). It's like I can feel the book's pain. I just try to not open the books too much. That's exactly what I do. It makes reading a bit awkward sometimes but it's worth it when you get to the end and the book is still in (near) pristine condition. Quote
BooksForLunch Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I do the same thing, concerning the spine. I'm very careful with how I read them. I usually use the recite (or bill) so like that I can start right away. I used to have big bookmarks that I adore, but I somehow manage to lose them... -_-'' So I use small sheet, no bigger then credit cards, as bookmarks. Quote

I'm really trying with Inkdeath at the moment because it's a lovely cover and I don't want to ruin it at all. Back on topic I found another bookmark of mine lying around today, it's not a very special one, just a plain HP bookmark, but it's another bookmark nevertheless. Quote
