Searching for a kids / teenager book, but can’t remember title or Authour

Hi everyone,

 

Hoping you can help find a book I read when I was in my early teens.

 

It’s about some kids who are on their summer holiday and find a barn that they suspect contains aliens. The aliens do escape and cause crop circles in the nearby farmers field.

the villain is called Wanda Free, I think that’s how it was spelt.

 

Each chapter is headlined with an evolving diagram of the alien starting iff like a tadpole, it then develops into a floating almost like an angler fish, then slowly starts do dissolve.

 

I’m sorry I cannot remember more character names, but it’s close 25 years since I read it and iv been telling my son about it.

suddenly came to me last night.

 

It’s a book called Hydra by Robert Swindells.

I'm really glad that you remembered the book. It was not one I have read, although I've heard of Robert Swindell.

The book looks good, so that's gone on my ever evolving list!
