The Library Nook
I have just taken a break from work and been looking on my shelves to see what I can put on Read It Swap It. However on my shelves I have so many books I don't want to get rid of, even though I may not want to re-read them for a long time. What makes you decide to re-read or keep books? Janet
I'm afraid I find it hard to part with books so I tend to keep most of them unless I've really hated them!!
Mia
I keep nearly all my books, as I do re-read them. It's only in the last couple of years that I've been able to part with any books. Like Janet, I only get rid of books that I really hated, or ones I know I will never read again (which are also usually the ones I really hated!). This is why I have literally thousands of books and nowhere to put them.

Michelle
We have lots of discussion and debates over this one! I seem to be in a minority, because I don't keep many of my books. There are some that I know I will eventually re-read, so I keep those, but it's not often that I re-read. Recently I have kept hold of a few books that I've really enjoyed, because I am hoping to lend them out.. or even keep them for my daughter. Other than that, I prefer to share them, and give them to charity shops etc Also, since running this forum, I have been lucky enough to have books sent to me by the authors, some even signed.. and of course I'm keeping those! Kell
I'm not sure what it is that makes me keep some books over others. obviously, I have to have really enoyed it and believe it could hold up to a repeat reading, but I also keep signed books (I have a small collection of them now - it's lovely!), and tend to keep books that have been given to me as gifts too. There are certain authors whose books I collect - Terry Pratchett, Kelley Armstrong, Simon Scarrow, Christopher Brookmyre and Stuart MacBride to name just a few; and also certain series of books that I collect - Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl and The Edge Chronicles are a few examples. Kylie
I keep all my books. I could never bear to part with any of them (except one, which I hated and is now sitting in my room waiting to have its mugshot taken to be put on ebay). I love all the books I own and would love to re-read them all one day. I would hate to get rid of one and then find a few years later that I have a sudden desire to read it again! Case in point: I got rid of most of my children's books quite a few years ago and am now regretting it big-time. I would love to read them all again, but now I'm going to have to buy them again! Echo
I keep every book, unless I'm absolutely positive that I'll never read it again. I have about 500 books, and I think I've only read about half.

Now you can buy equipment to transfer them onto computer! Grr! ).
