angerball
The Skin Gods - Richard Montanari Blurb from Amazon: The streets of Philadelphia are blistering in the summer heat, the homicide rate is soaring and the nights belong to the mad. Detectives Kevin Byrne and Jessica Balzano are prowling the streets with a growing sense of unease. Where next will evil rear its ugly head? When a series of seemingly unrelated crimes shatter the restless silence of the city, their worst fears are confirmed. A beautiful secretary is slashed to death in a grimy motel shower. A street hustler brutally murdered with a chainsaw. Piece by piece, a strange and sickening puzzle presents itself: someone is meticulously recreating Hollywood's most well-known and horrifying murder scenes, capturing them on film and inserting the clips into videos - for an unsuspecting public to find. While Kevin Byrne begins furtive investigations of his own, Jessica Balzano goes undercover to work the steaming back alleys of Philadelphia, entering a violent world of underground film, pornography and seedy nightclubs, hidden to all but the initiated. Discovering that none of The Actor's victims are as innocent as they appear to be, the two detectives arrive at a terrifying reality: They are not just chasing a homicide suspect. They are stalking evil itself... The Skin Gods is a taut on-the-edge-of-your-seat thriller, with a pretty decent storyline behind the constant action. It’s well above others of the genre, and for this reason I will always be willing to read one of Montanari’s novels. Though it is a genre that has been done to death (pun!), The Skin Gods is still a very fresh and compelling read. If you are into serial killer novels then you’ll probably love this one. It’s full of twists and turns, with lots of ‘red-herrings’ along the way. After reading The Rosary Girls, I figured that that is Montarani’s style, and spent the whole book trying to guess who the killer was. Typically, I was wrong – but that’s what I enjoyed about it; nothing is obvious, but all is explained in the end.

angerball
Not in a bad way. I mean, it won't scare you into being unable to sleep, but you may be forced to stay up because you want to finish it!
Louiseog
I loved loved it. Felt sympathy for the characters so not scarey somehow
angerball
Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl Right from the introduction of the book, we know we are facing a mystery. In the initial pages, we learn that the protagonist
angerball
Out by Natsuo Kirino Out is a gritty thriller, set in modern-time Japan; it follows the lives of four dissatisfied (for various reasons) women working the late shift at a boxed lunch factory. When one of the women murders her husband in a fit of rage, and recruits her fellow workers to dismember and dispose of the body, she sets into motion a chain of events that will leave each of them altered forever. angerball
Stuck In Neutral - Terry Trueman Stuck In Neutral is written through the eyes of 14 year old Shawn McDaniel, who has cerebral palsy. While he has no muscle control whatsoever, in his mind he is as vibrant and alive as the next person. However, his father believes him to be suffering and in a great deal of pain (especially when he has seizures, which ironically is the only time Shawn feels free), and is contemplating a 'mercy-killing'. Stuck in Neutral runs at just under 120 pages, but what a gripping 120 pages it is! It is a very sweet, moving take on what life may be like through the eyes of a severely disabled teenager. The author has a son who also suffers from cerebral palsy, and his inspiration for writing the book was to create a world how he imagined life could be like for his son. There were many parts in the book that had my laughing hysterically
