Louiseog Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Someone has just lent me a load of Jane Green books, and I feel a bit the same, think I'm a bit past her! Quote
The Library Nook Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Finished Jane Green - Second Chance - sadly disappointing - or maybe I am finally growing out of chick lit . Review to follow I bought that recently but after a chapter picked up a new book which isn't a good sign. I normally quite like Jane Green so I will give it a go although I am a bit worried after reading your comment! Quote
happyanddandy Posted June 29, 2008 Author Posted June 29, 2008 Someone has just lent me a load of Jane Green books, and I feel a bit the same, think I'm a bit past her! Perhaps it's an age thing Louise!! Her earlier stuff is better Jemima J sticks out in my mind. Take it on your holiday Nook - One for the beach Quote
The Library Nook Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 I think I will, we weren't supposed to be going anywhere this year but friends have asked us to share in renting a cottage in Wales so I think I will put it on the pile for that! Quote
Janet Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 I'm another who's gone off Jane Green since finding BCF. I've decided I will try it, just because I've read her others, but I will wait until I find it in a charity shop! Quote
happyanddandy Posted June 29, 2008 Author Posted June 29, 2008 I have been sent another book to review for New Books Magazine. Looks interesting - it's called At a Loss For Words by Diane Schoemperlen - she is Canadian and this looks like her second novel. She won the Marian Engel award for Women Writers in 2007 Quote
The Library Nook Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 (edited) That sounds great! I really want to do that but am nervous my reviews will sound rubbish lol! Edited June 29, 2008 by The Library Nook spelling lol Quote
happyanddandy Posted June 29, 2008 Author Posted June 29, 2008 That sounds great! I really want to do that but am nervous my reviews will sound rubbish lol! I have never done it before either and have no idea whether the previous review I did will make it into the magazine. When I submitted they said thank you and that was all! - I got another book so it must have been ok-ish. Quote
JudyB Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 HandD I thought the review you did for Worldwide Adventures in Love was brilliant. Quote

happyanddandy Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 Finished At a Loss for Words - and review will be in the blog soon. I enjoyed parts of it but it was a chore at times. Now on to the The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas which I have had for ages Quote
Kate Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Now on to the The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas which I have had for ages I really enjoyed this book! If you follow the hyperlink in my signature you will find my review. This was such a moving book, I don't think I can praise it enough. Quote
happyanddandy Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 I,m about 68 pages in and it is gripping me - I don't read other people's reviews until I have finished a book Quote
Janet Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I,m about 68 pages in and it is gripping me - I don't read other people's reviews until I have finished a book I try not to, unless it's for a book I don't know. Quote
kelly2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I enjoyed it too, I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting Quote
JudyB Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 It's nice on my TBR list - just got to get through my current book which is a good read but slow progress (have to book some reading time tomorrow). Quote

happyanddandy Posted July 11, 2008 Author Posted July 11, 2008 Chosen 'When we Came to the End' by Joshua Ferris - looks appealing to me - it's about different characters working together in an office - now that sounds deadly dull when I read it back Quote
happyanddandy Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 Here's a great idea from my current book for office workers!! Hank Neary was an avid reader. He arrived early in his brown corduroy coat with a book taken from the library, copied all its pages on the Xerox machine, and sat at his desk reading what looked to passersby like the honest pages of business. He'd make it through a three-hundred-page novel every two or three days. Love it Quote
JudyB Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Ooo I'm getting so impatient to read this now - I'm a 100 pages nearer to finishing my current book so not far to go. Finished it today so will be joining everyone with The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. Quote
