Books of the year- anyone getting ready yet?

It's nearly that time of year where people look back at the books they have read this year and decide on their favourites. Has anyone started doing this yet? A bit early I know but I always find it so difficult!

We actually run a "Book of the Year" poll with several categories each year. In order that December's books can be included, we do the whole thing in January, so I hope everyone's been keeping a note of their favourite (and least favourite!) books this year!

I'm glad that's a plural 'books' because I'd never be able to choose just one! I've been keeping close track so I have a few in mind. I've had an excellent reading year!

I agree, I have never been able to just choose my favourite book.

I think I know what my favourite book is this year, I think it was so good that I doubt I will read better this year. However, I have read some cracking books over 2007 that will definitely be worth a mention.

As always, I rarely read books that were published this year, so my "book of the year" is inevitably unlikely to be anyone else's.

Oh, I'm thinking about this. I have to narrow it down to two or three.

The thing is they're nothing alike!!!!

One is a mystery set in 1892 and another is a futuristic romance. *shakes head*

I'm going to have a tough time narrowing the field.

lol very true Kell! That's what I love about reading, you never know what gems are around the corner.

I'm not sure I fully understand your question, but I think you're asking if it's just for books that were first published this year?

 

If that's the question, the answer is no - we do have a category for best newly-published book, but it's for books that you've READ over the course of the year, no matter what year they were first published.

 

The categories for the 2007 awards will be posted at the beginning of January with a thread for each one where members can nominate the books, then the most popular will be chosen for the poll and voting begins. At the end of voting, the winners are announced.
