Raven
Just a quick drive-by post, but does anyone know of any Sci-fi or Fantasy books that claim to be "Based on a True Story" (when they obviously couldn't be).
Pumpkin
I don't know any that claim to be based on a true story but I've read one ongoing series based on the ebola plague, Ebola K by Bobby Adair

Raven
Thanks for the tip, but that's not quite what I am getting at. I don't know if you have seen the film Fargo, or the TV series it is based on, but both start with a line saying 'Based on a true story' when both are works of fiction. Fargo could be true however, because the events - although outlandish - could have actually happen. What I am getting at here is a fantasy or science fiction story like The Lord of the Rings or Star Wars starting with the line 'Based on a true story', which obviously couldn't have happened because Orcs and Jedi etc. don't exist. I'm just wondering if any fantasy or science fiction author has had the brass to start their story that way.
BookShelfy91
After a quick google search, the only result I can pull up that is even remotely helpful (even then not entirely) is amityville horror claims to be based on true events but isn't. Although from what I can tell these claims are controversial. Apart from that, you get it in movies a fair bit but not so much in books. Authors don't really seem to sell it that way I guess. Hope that helps a little... sorry if it doesn't Shelfy
