Kylie
I've read about half of Tales of Terror from the Black Ship and a few more chapters of The Interpretation of Murder. Both are going well.

Peacefield
I started reading DUFF but I have a feeling it would be a tragic waste of my precious reading time... Was a film made of this book by chance? I watched it this weekend so it's still rolling around in my brain I didn't get a ton of reading in this weekend. I managed maybe 10% of Puritan Witch: The Redemption of Rebecca Eames. Good stuff!
frankie
Was a film made of this book by chance? I watched it this weekend so it's still rolling around in my brain Yep, that's the one! Was it any good? And can you imagine that Mae Whitman is playing a fat girl in the movie? It's so distorted...
Peacefield
Yep, that's the one! Was it any good? And can you imagine that Mae Whitman is playing a fat girl in the movie? It's so distorted... It was pretty formulaic and predictable, but I must admit there was something about it I enjoyed. Mae Whitman, obviously not fat (just wearing baggy clothes), was really funny - something I didn't know about her! I might have to give the book a try for something light. I'm also a wee bit shallow in that I liked the guy who played Wesley so that was another reason I watched it...
chesilbeach
I finished Catherine Certitude yesterday morning (the illustrations by Sempé are just so charming!), and then couldn't make up my mind what to do, whether to go back to my last pick from the book jar or not, so in the end decided to start the St Clare series that Kay lent me. Read the first one and I actually think I like it better than Malory Towers! I've been dipping in and out of Winnie-The-Pooh for the English Counties Challenge too, so decided I might as well finish that off … how have I not read this before??? It's fantastic! Onto today, and I decided to read The Peculiar Life of a Lonely Postman by Denis Thériault. Didn't realise it's only just over 100 pages long, so will probably finish it off this evening. pontalba
I'm reading The Sixth Extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert and Burglars Cant' Be Choosers by Lawrence Block. It's the first in the Bernie Rhodenbarr series.

Brian.
I'm halfway through Super Casino by Pete Earley. Very enjoyable but making me wish my Vegas trip was closer than September I also read this before my first trip to Las Vegas and had the same feelings you. Where are you staying while you are there? Alexi
Not booked yet.... Waiting for some good deals to come up but I'm attending a wedding in the MGM Grand so want something nearish to there I think. Maybe the Aria - some good prices there it seems. Where did you stay? Would you recommend?
Janet
I've been dipping in and out of Winnie-The-Pooh for the English Counties Challenge too, so decided I might as well finish that off … how have I not read this before??? Read the first one and I actually think I like it better than Malory Towers! Yay!! result! There is something a bit more relaxing about St Clare's .. the girls listen to the radio and dance etc in the common room .. also they have more feasts. Glad you enjoyed it Claire .. hope the others live up! I've been dipping in and out of Winnie-The-Pooh for the English Counties Challenge too, so decided I might as well finish that off … how have I not read this before??? It's fantastic! This calls for more cows :cows: Of course .. I knew you'd love it!! Onto today, and I decided to read The Peculiar Life of a Lonely Postman by Denis Thériault. Didn't realise it's only just over 100 pages long, so will probably finish it off this evening. I've not heard of it but I love the title Am getting near the end of The Restoration of Otto Laird by Nigel Packer .. also finished off listening to Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell so I know exactly how it finishes in time for the last two episodes (probably the worst idea ever but I've done it now ) Great book brilliantly narrated. Not sure what I'll pick next. On Instagram I rather foolishly took a pic of the books I intended to read .. or pick from .. in June. Now I've got to stick with it Probably will go on to The Mesmerist by Barbara Ewing .. I know quite a few people really enjoyed it so it's a book I'm looking forward to Don't know what my next audio will be .. haven't a clue .. sometimes I have a book already waiting in my basket but not this time. Will have to do some searching.

Would you recommend? I stayed in the Stratosphere which is at the north end of the strip which I got free as part of a package deal. It's fine to lay your head but I wouldn't recommend it because it is a little out of the way. Aria is a lovely looking place so if the price is good then you should jump at the chance. Cosmopolitan is also amazing looking and right next door to Aria. Either way, you'll have a great time I'm sure and I'm heading back to Vegas myself in late October. It'll be interesting to see her funny side, too! I've only seen her in Parenthood and her funniness doesn't surface in that one. I had to check who plays Wesley... Shallow or not, we all have our various reasons to watch a movie and the movie police people can suck it! I've started reading Disclaimer by Renee Knight and I'm really into it. I was hoping it would be good and I've not been disappointed so far!
Athena
I'm currently half way through John Flanagan - Broederband 1: De Outsiders (Brotherband 1: The Outcasts) and so far I'm liking it more than book 2 in this series (which I finished yesterday), so that's good . chesilbeach
I am ridiculously pleased to hear this! This calls for more cows :cows: Of course .. I knew you'd love it!! I can't believe I haven't read it before now. I finished The Peculiar Life of a Lonely Postman last night, and it had the best ending to a book I've read in a long time! Bloomin' brilliant. And I don't even like haikus (or even poetry) normally. Started Artful by Ali Smith today and it's another corker. I adore her writing … and another book with poetry! Echo
I'm still reading Shirley by Charlotte Bronte, and I'm remembering why it's one of my all-time favorites!
Athena
I finished John Flanagan - Broederband 1: De Outsiders (Brotherband 1: The Outcasts) and started John Flanagan - Ranger's Apprentice 10: The Emperor of Nihon-Ja. This looks to be one of the longer, if not the longest, book in the series. I'm not that far into it yet, as yesterday I got distracted looking at some books from my childhood that I found up the attic. I'd been looking for them for many years now, and on a random hunt for a book my parents own, I managed to find these books! (I didn't actually find the book I was looking for, though). You've never seen Mae as a little girl in the movie 'Hope Floats,' Frankie? She was excellent, and at such a young age! I learned about a new book that Iain Pears as written called Arcadia, which is coming out in September. I'm so looking forward to it! He hasn't had a book out since 2009, I think . frankie
That's right! Movie police, pfft! Sometimes we just have to have guilty pleasures, right? You've never seen Mae as a little girl in the movie 'Hope Floats,' Frankie? She was excellent, and at such a young age! We sure need our guilty pleasures, life would be very dull without I'm not sure about Hope Floats... Some of the pictures from the set seem familiar, and so does Mae (as a younger Mae, that is). I first saw her in Parenthood, and originally thought she was a new talent, but I then somehow came across her imdb data and found out she's been in loads of different things (And you totally watched Hope Float because of Harry Connick Jr., am I right? ) Hoping to make another dent in Disclaimer today! Anna Begins
I started End of the World Running Club by Adrian J Walker a few days ago. It got kind of predictable and boring, so I picked up Ken Follett's World Without End again, to continue. Maybe I am just getting tired of apocalyptic stories. Oh ya, and I dumped Wild by Cheryl Strayed... I just got tired of it and it was sort of depressing.

It's fantastic! I am ridiculously pleased to hear this! I too am delighted to hear that, Winnie The Pooh is wonderful I've been reading Falling by Emma Kavanagh. Most of the way through it. Relatively uneventful and gently-paced for a thriller, but enjoyable.
Athena
I'm still reading John Flanagan - Ranger's Apprentice 10: The Emperor of Nihon-Ja, I'm almost half way through it. I'm enjoying it, but not as much as the best books of the series. It's still good though. I did just now read two Stilton books in between reading the bigger book, because I want to hand those two loans in at the library soon. I'll now solely concentrate on the The Emperor of Nihon-Ja book, hopefully I can finish it before I'm going to the library but we shall see. I've been busy organising things in my book database yesterday and today, so I had less time to read.
