Ooh, into our sixth month already! What are you all reading?

I've been a bit busy lately so I haven't been reading much (apart from work stuff). I want to read a little more of Guns, Germs and Steel before I pick up another fiction book.

I'm currently reading Dark Secrets by Michael Hjorth & Hans Rosenfeldt. It's a Swedish thriller / detective novel, a debut.

I have read three very different books in the past week or so. Firstly a YA Christian novel called 18 Things (My So Called Afterlife) by Jamie Ayres, then it was a Dan Brown'esque biblical/religious/modern & historical thriller called The Psalter by Galen Watson. I rounded off my weekend by finishing the Rachel Caine Ill Wind, the first book in her Weather Warden series.

I started the second of her WW series, Heat Stroke. It seems to be keeping my reading mojo bopping along, so I am happy.

I'm reading The Coldest Girl in Coldtown, it's ok but a bit slow, needs to pick up a bit.

Thinking of picking that up soon as I loved her Darkest Part Of The Forest. Hope Coldtown picks up :)

I just finished Uprooted by Naomi Novik. Apart from one or two irksome things, it was a beautifully written, creative and immersive story. Full review to follow.

At the moment, working my way through Rise Of The Lich King, the poorly-written World of Warcraft book I read many years ago  Not sure what will be up after that, but maybe a re-read of Paper Towns, as I just bought a gorgeous new black hardback edition of it.

I also bought a copy of Dante & Aristotle Discover The Universe, as I really liked that when I read it (ebook) and it was fairly cheap.

Might go looking for another horror story too, I'm kind of in that mood.

So far I have read 45 books this year, I am hoping to make it to 50 by the end of June. At the moment I have just started Cockroaches by Jo Nesbo which I am hoping I enjoy as much as his other books.

My latest pick from the book jar was The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson, so I started that one this morning and I'm just over a third of the way through.

Tee hee hee

I'm reading Sleepless by Lou Morgan now, a recommendation from Michelle. Got it for cheapsies on my Kindle and it's EXACTLY what I was looking for. It's actually reading kind of like a Creepypasta, if anyone here knows what that means. (Internet horror story site.) Really enjoying it, though I've seen reviews knock the ending soooo we'll see!

I haven't started a new book yet, but my next read will be Chris Riddell - Goth Girl 2: Goth Girl and the Fete Worse Than Death which is due at the library in a few days. If I feel up for it though, I'll be working on writing some reviews of the books I've read in the past few days.

Finished Sleepless yesterday (yep, read it in a day!) It was very very good, I'll review it maybe on my lunchbreak or after work.

Started another from that Red Eye horror series, Frozen Charlotte, and.... it's not my thing, but I'm still enjoying it. Which is weird. It's got enough horror tropes presented in creative enough ways to keep my attention, and it's all very strange. Looking forward to seeing how it ends, because as with Sleepless, people took issue with the ending.

I'll probably have that finished tonight, no idea what next!

Oooh, I've got that on my Kindle so I hope you enjoy it, Claire.  :)

I want to try Frozen Charlotte soon.

I think if you liked Sleepless you'll like Frozen Charlotte too. I certainly do, they're similar in feel, and I can see why they're grouped together in the Red Eye set.

I don't mean to alarm anyone who was avoiding it :giggle2: but my progress with Half of a Yellow Sun has definitely slowed. We are meandering between three different characters, but other than eat a lot and sigh about things I'm not entirely sure what the point is and where we are going....

I'm going to give it another 100 pages and see how we are, especially given it's on the 1001 list and the Teacher's top 100 list, there must be SOMETHING about it?!

I didn't get on with it either - I read it 8 years ago for my book group, and although I finished it, I only did it for the discussion.

Oh no, this doesn't bode well.  :o How far are you into it?

Definitely not sounding like a winner. :hide:  Knowing my luck, the Book Jar will select it as my next read. :sarcastic:

I was hoping your post would be a "stick with it" Claire :giggle2:

I'm 170 pages in now (was 150 when I posted) out of 540, so I'm 1/3 of the way in... it's on several lists though so I am reluctant to abandon, and am yet to do so this year....

I finished reading The song of the Quarkbeast by Jasper Fforde today - very enjoyable read. I'm moving on with Troll Mountain by Matthew Reilly which I've been waiting forever for to come out in paper form.

I read a bit of Guns, Germs and Steel while travelling into the city last night, and I've also started a book that has been on my TBR pile for quite a few years: The Interpretation of Murder by Jed Rubenfeld. I had actually taken it off my shelves because I had given up on ever getting around to reading it, but then I needed a book for a couple of minutes (*cough* bathroom reading *cough*), and it was the nearest thing to hand, so I grabbed it. I've only read the first few pages, but it seems OK, so I'll stick with it.

I love it when that happens :smile2: I hope it turns out to be an excellent read!

Still plowing through Dark Secrets. I only have about 70 pages left so should definitely be able to finish it today :smile2:

I finished The Coldest Girl in Coldtown, not that impressed, very formulaic for the genre, teen paranormal, very predictable so a degree of skim reading was employed toward the end of the book. Nicely written though so toying with 2/5 or 3/5.

I think I will give the Book Box a miss for my next book as my mojo is feeling a little jaded and needs perking up! :)

Hi everyone, at the moment I seem to have four books on the go. I am reading Death by Request by Jaden Skye this is book 11, I love these as they are so easy to read and it is on my phone so can ready it in bed. Also A Song for Julia by Charles Sheenan Miles this is ok but it is not grabbing me, I will continue as I don't give up on books.  Torvill and Dean My Life on Ice which as this is an Autobiography I only ready a section at a time.  Also James Patterson Miracle at Augusta, this I am reading if I have a spare 30 minutes at the end of the evening.
