Michelle Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Most of you know how much I enjoyed YALC last year, the UK's first YA Literature Convention. It was held within the London Film and Comic Con, and so it also gave me a chance to experience that too. You can read more about YALC here, and read about my experiences here. YALC is returning this year, again within the LFCC, and I've already bought my tickets. Today they've announced more of the expected authors (there's even more to come, apparently!) which I'll list below. It would be so wonderful if someone else from here decided to go, so I could say hi.. it should be another great event! Edited: The full list of authors: Alex Wheatle Alexia Casale Alice Oseman Amy Alward Anna McKerrow Annabel Pitcher Arabella Weir Ben Aaranovitch Brian Conaghan Carrie Hope Fletcher Cassandra Clare Charlie Higson C J Daugherty Clare Furniss Darren Shan Dawn Kurtagich Den Patrick Derek Landy Frances Hardinge Francesca Haig Hayley Long Helena Coggan Holly Bourne Holly Smale James Dawson Jamie Andersen Jenny Valentine Joe Abercrombie Judy Blume Julia Bell Julie Mayhew Kevin Brooks LA Weatherley Laura Dockrill Lisa Williamson Liz Kessler Lou Morgan Louise O’Neill Lucy Inglis Lucy Ivison Lucy Saxon Malorie Blackman Marie Rutkoski Mark Stay Matt Whyman Melinda Salisbury MG Harris Moira Fowley-Doyle Moira Young Nikesh Shukla Non Pratt Paul Magrs Patrick Ness Sally Green Samantha Shannon Sarah Pinborough Sarah Rees-Brennan Siobhan Curham Steve Camden Taran Matharau Teri Terry Tom Ellen Will Hill Virginia Bergin Quote
chesilbeach Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 I'm seriously tempted, but I think it's going to clash with another commitment on the Sunday, and I'm not sure I could make a day trip to London on the Saturday as well. I've looked it up a few times as I would like to try and fit it in, but as looks like it's becoming an annual event, maybe I'll be able to make it next year instead. Quote
Michelle Posted April 15, 2015 Author Posted April 15, 2015 That's such a shame Claire, I'd love to meet you! Maybe 2016 then?! Quote
Nollaig Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 I'd love to go! I can't afford it this year, but I could save to go next year? Quote
Michelle Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 This is sounding good - let's have a mini BCF convention at YALC! (Noll, you can even stay with me if you want!) Quote
Nollaig Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Ahhh I wouldn't want to impose! If it came down to the difference between going and not going, I might stay one night to reduce accommodation costs I had planned to maybe go back to London this winter, but instead I might actually keep saving right through til July 2016 and make a mini-holiday for myself out of it! Patrick Ness seems to have been both years, I hope he's there again next year, would love to get A Monster Calls signed! The thought of so many authors is one place is amazing! Quote
Michelle Posted April 29, 2015 Author Posted April 29, 2015 I've just posted the 2nd announcement of authors. I was trying to combine the two together in an alphabetical list, but it's not going well on my chromebook! Quote
chesilbeach Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Gah!!! It's soooooo tempting - will really have to see if I can swing it somehow. Quote
Nollaig Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Sarah Pinborough D: I can't do it, not with my new job crippling me financially until the end of June. I will suddenly be able to afford it all at once at the end of June, but until then I can't. If there are still tickets and flights at the end of June, I'll get them, but I just can't do it before then. I am however going to use that giant list of authors as a reference guide for finding lots of new YA stuff to read! Quote
Michelle Posted May 1, 2015 Author Posted May 1, 2015 That's what I'm doing Noll - but that's not helping my finances much! Quote
chesilbeach Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Judy Blume!!!! My first real YA books were hers many, many moons ago. Adding in Paul Magrs makes it so, so tempting. You're both right, this is a great way to expand my YA reading horizons. Quote
Nollaig Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Official schedule released... and it honestly looks amazing. http://www.booktrust.org.uk/books/adults/young-adults/yalc/programme/ There are 10+ authors now, up from 3 a couple months ago, who I would love to hear speak/get autographs from, and I don't doubt that number will increase as I keep checking out more of them. So far, the only one I want to see on the Friday is Lou Morgan, author of Sleepless, which really was a great little book - on a horror panel. I'm talking like I'm going. I'm so tempted, specially since my Iceland trip has fallen through. Quote
