Anna Begins Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 I've also picked my next read out of the book jar. It's The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. I tried reading it several years ago, enjoyed the beginning but somehow never got around to finishing it. Hopefully I will fare better when I start it. Whoa! I'm afraid of that book! I wanted to love it so much, but I think it might have been my current mood more than anything because the premise had me hooked totally. I certainly will be trying more of his work in the hope it was just wrong timing Oh goody, your not giving up on him just yet! I don't mean to be all rah rah PKD, but I just finished A Scanner Darkly, and it was fantastic! I have about 90 pages left in Burial Rites by Hannah Kent, so I should be finished today. It's been so good! Quote
Kylie Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 I'm three-quarters of the way through The Girl Who Played with Fire. Quote
chesilbeach Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 I've been struggling a bit with House-Bound, and I think it's just the wrong time for me to be reading it, so I've put it aside for now, and started a quick easy read instead - The Ghost and Lady Alice by M. C. Beaton. Quote
muggle not Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 I'm three-quarters of the way through The Girl Who Played with Fire. I loved The Girl Who Played With Fire. I think the second and third books in the Trilogy are as good if not even better. Quote
bobblybear Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Whoa! I'm afraid of that book! So am I, moreso because I didn't finish it last time. I have about 90 pages left in Burial Rites by Hannah Kent, so I should be finished today. It's been so good! Glad you are enjoying it. Sometimes it's a matter of reading a book at the right time. I hope it's the case with the Murakami book Very true. Fingers crossed I'll have better luck this time. Quote
Anna Begins Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Glad you are enjoying it. Was sorry to see it end Started Jack Reacher #9, One Shot... the one the movie is based on This is my last Reacher, then I am caught up on all 19 of them. Quote
frankie Posted April 30, 2015 Author Posted April 30, 2015 Very true. Fingers crossed I'll have better luck this time. Crossing fingers and putting my thumbs up! I finished Lost & Found last night and started reading A Tap on the Window by Linwood Barclay. Seems like another page turner from him Quote
chaliepud Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Currently reading Wool by Hugh Howey and Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo, the latter is going to be rather traumatic reading I think. Quote
Kylie Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I finished The Girl Who Played with Fire and started The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. Quote
chesilbeach Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Finished The Ghost and Lady Alice by M. C. Beaton, and started The Bloody Tower which is the next Daisy Dalrymple book in the series by Carola Dunn Quote
Nollaig Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I finished The Shock of the Fall. I really enjoyed it, but I still have to process it, as it's not a book to be forgotten easily. This one has been on my wishlist for a while, glad to hear you enjoyed it. I've actually been waiting to buy a paperback copy rather than a e-reader one, because I love the paperback cover. I just finished the sample to Burial Rites and decided to buy it for my next read. I just read that too, but I haven't been on the forum! I've now jumped straight into The Girl on the Train - with some trepidation after all the mixed reviews though... I hope you enjoy it! I have about 90 pages left in Burial Rites by Hannah Kent, so I should be finished today. It's been so good! So glad you've enjoyed it, must pop over to your thread now to see what you've said. My review is still pending, but I loved it too. Really unusual book. I finished my re-read of Inkheart, and have started The Cipher by Kathe Koja. Quote
BSchultz19 Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Currently reading Wool by Hugh Howey and Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo, the latter is going to be rather traumatic reading I think. I really really want to read Johnny Got His Gun. It might be one of the next books that I buy. Quote
chaliepud Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I really really want to read Johnny Got His Gun. It might be one of the next books that I buy. It was recommended to me by my son's English Lit teacher, I'll let you know what I think of it once I have some time to give it the attention she tells me it deserves. Quote
chesilbeach Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Going to read more of The Bloody Tower today. Bought myself Heartless by Gail Carriger on audiobook, and Summer at the Beach Street Café by Jenny Colgan on Kindle. Happy Friday to me. Quote
Nollaig Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Already a third of the way through The Cipher! It's weird and dark and kinda gross and full of unlikeable characters, but... I kinda love it? Reminds me of a more serious John Dies In The End. Quote
