dtrpath27 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 (edited) Would anyone be interested in doing a read along for The Giver quartet? I just finished reading the first one, but would be happy to read it again so we could all start from square one. There has been so much positive talk about the first one, but it doesn't seem like many have read on in the series. If anyone is interested in joining in, just let me know. Also, they really are easy (yet amazing, based on the first book) reads and under 200 pages, so I think fairly easy to squeeze in. Edited January 22, 2015 by dtrpath27 Quote
Michelle Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 This is something I want to do, but I'm thinking about the review books I have to get to.. if you get enough interest, I'll see what I can do. I *really* want to get this version: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0544340973/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=OKS79VXK67V6&coliid=I25HAEPP0IB9T2 Quote
dtrpath27 Posted January 22, 2015 Author Posted January 22, 2015 Ooh, what a lovely version! I'm going to a Scholastic warehouse sale in a few weeks and am hoping to find them for a steal. Quote
Nollaig Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I might be up for it, yeah. I only just put the first one on my wishlist the other day Quote
dtrpath27 Posted January 23, 2015 Author Posted January 23, 2015 Nice! They have The Giver in the Kindle store for $1.99. I'd like to own a real copy, though. Quote
Weave Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 What a gorgeous copy Michelle I read 'The Giver' and enjoyed it, I want to read the rest of the books at some point. Quote
dtrpath27 Posted January 24, 2015 Author Posted January 24, 2015 I haven't gotten a hold of the other ones yet, so I'm in no hurry, but if anyone finds themselves starting the series, let me know and I'm happy to read along. Quote
Athena Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I'm not in the mood for it right now, and I can't afford to buy the boxset at the moment anyway (~30 euros for 4 books). My library doesn't have any of the books unfortunately. I'd like to read the books some time in the future for sure, but definitely not in the next while. Sorry . Quote
dtrpath27 Posted January 26, 2015 Author Posted January 26, 2015 Aww! No apologies necessary. Like I said, I don't have them yet either, but was wondering if anyone would like to join in when I do. You know, the more the merrier and all. Quote
Weave Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 If I get the full set, I would definitely like to join in Quote
frankie Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) I've read the first book in the series and loved it, and I've always meant to read the other novels, so yeah, I'd be interested in a group read of the series! Edit: for the curious people: if you like children's books and/or YA and dystopia, this is definitely a series to read. The first book is brilliant!! I believe it's in my personal must-read books list Edited January 28, 2015 by frankie Quote
Marie H Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 I'm interested in the Giver Quartet . Never read Lois Lowry before, but I've order the first of the quartet from the library now. It seems that most people have read the first book, so I will be ready to go reading The Giver sometime next week . Quote
dtrpath27 Posted January 30, 2015 Author Posted January 30, 2015 (edited) Sounds good! There are several who said they would be interested; some have the books and some are working on getting them. I have the first one and am needing the rest. If others are interested, I'll work on getting the next one this weekend. Adding: Just post when you're ready, and when we've all got the first one (and a bit of time ) we'll begin. Edited January 31, 2015 by dtrpath27 Quote
dtrpath27 Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 I'm heading off to the library to pick up the rest of the books in The Giver series. Is anyone else ready to start reading this week/weekend? Quote
Kylie Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I won't re-read the first book, but I'll join you for the second and third books. Quote
frankie Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I'm not sure if I have the time to start this weekend but I'll try and start soon enough! I have a copy of the first book, I'll now place a reservation for the rest of the series Let me know where you guys at when you start! Quote
Marie H Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I'm ready to start reading The Giver now , or maybe the weekend would be fine. Quote
Nollaig Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Yeah I can start reading it maybe at the weekend or just after it. Quote
Marie H Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 (edited) I started The Giver last night, and I am very intrigued with the book . I don't think it will take me long to read the whole book, so I will request Gathering Blue from the library too. Edited February 7, 2015 by Marie H Quote
dtrpath27 Posted February 8, 2015 Author Posted February 8, 2015 (edited) I'm glad you're finding it interesting. I've been a slacked reader this weekend, going to parades and such instead, but I plan to do my re-read of The Giver today. Edited February 8, 2015 by dtrpath27 Quote
Marie H Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 I finished The Giver last night, and I'm looking forward to collect the second of the quartet from the library tomorrow. Then I'll see when everyone is ready to start reading. Quote
frankie Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 I haven't started re-reading The Giver yet, as I'm still in the middle of my current read. My mojo's been waning lately, too much stuff in real life to deal with at the moment. Hoping to get into the book soon though! Luckily it's a quick read Quote
Nollaig Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 I have the book, and will be starting it this evening! Quote
Nollaig Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I finished the book! Haha okay I seem to be the first person ready to talk about it, so I won't say too much until others come along - except, that I loved it. I have the other three, but I think I'll read something else before I jump into the next book in this quartet. Quote

I'm ready to discuss it, but I'm not sure whether we should use hidden spoilers, or not. Quote
