Hahaha. Very true! But do you ever find that people are less willing to buy you books because they think you already 'have enough'? I rarely receive books as gifts for that very reason. :(

I think it's more that they know I have read so many, they don't want to buy me something I already have or have already read.  When they ask me for some suggestions, most people are happy buy me books. :)

Lucky you! :) I think my family figures that I have so many books that any they give me will just get 'lost' among the rest and that I'll never read it. I did specifically request books from my partner and brother this year, so I'll see how I go. ;)

You'd think they'd be glad of an easy shopping trip, wouldn't you?  I always try to buy people something they would like, so if I know they like something - like books - it's a no brainer for me! :D

My family doesn't often give me books that I didn't ask for, because they don't know what I have. My boyfriend gives me books sometimes for my birthday, which I really like (though a few times they were books I already had) :). The past few years I've got books from my parents that I ordered for myself but then gave to them. Generally I prefer to give people a specific list so I know I'll get something I don't have yet (though I'm always happy when my boyfriend buys me a good book that I didn't know about), I don't like getting the exact same copy / edition of a book I already own in that edition.
