julie
~~~You are Cordially Invited~~~ *BYOB* (Bring Your Own Books) It seems there are a large group of us this year who have a bit of a Book Problem . We have plenty We buy more We read less . I have come up with a new idea that might remedy the situation . Set a small tablet & pen where it's handy. Make a short daily note ,using the system below : How many books I have ______ How many did I buy today _______ *Add one point for each book you buy. How many did I complete today _____ *Subtract a point each time you finish a book . How many PAGES I read today _______ This system might help us to remember to read our own books first. Stop buying for the year until you can catch up a bit . You'll have a reward system for books completed, because every time your points go down, you are accomplishing your goal . You'll see that your points go up every time you purchase another book . The one with the lowest score wins this game . (Based on your own beginning and ending numbers, not comparing your totals to others ) The pages read at the bottom are for us folks who suffer from TDS . (THE DREADED SLUMPS) ~*~ As long as you read even ONE page , you have made some progress ~*~ No pressure, no goals , no challenges . Just read a page ,or two, or as many as you want . Just try to always read one page per day . Anyone game ? *NOTE* APOLOGIES TO THOSE WHO THOUGHT BYOB MEANT "Bring Your Own Bottle " You can Bring one, but you may not be able to keep clear records if you concentrate more on the bottle than the books . chesilbeach
I've got a few books on pre-order (because they were dirt cheap!) so do I have to count those in my books bought today count, as I actually chose to buy them last year, but they did appear on my Kindle today? My theory would be no, but I'll abide by your decision as referee, Julie.
pontalba
Great idea, Julie! I have the same question, I have 2 or 3 coming that were pre=ordered last year. Must they be counted?
julie
I don't know, you guys ! I don't want to be the judge on this one, I'll just say each person can use their own discretion when deciding whether books already ordered will count if you start today . You could just make a note on today's page that you have a couple already ordered but they won't count since you didn't sign up to do this until AFTER the order was placed . How's that ? Athena
This idea sounds pretty good ! Although I don't doubt my amount of books bought will in a while be higher than my amount of books read.. (atm it's 8 read in 2014 vs. 1 bought).
julie
Yea, Athena This idea isn't gonna get off the ground I don't think . It seems we all have the same problem .. Addiction to books .
Athena
Well my goal is to buy less books and spend less money on books, compared with 2013, and be more critical of what books I buy. I don't want things to get as insane as they did last year.
Marie H
I am trying to keep a record of the prices of books i buy this year. I've never done this before, so it could be an eye-opener!
pontalba
We have put the kibosh on book buying. I succumbed, and bought one kindle book, part of that Wayward Pines series I'm reading, and I have 2 on back order, Ordered Last Year! They are due to arrive next week. Another pre-order coming in July, I think. When we see a book we really do want, it goes on the Wish List.
