vodkafan
I have just had a bit of a small disaster in my rucksack. A drink has leaked and soaked two tree books that i was really looking forward to reading. The canvas rucksack is no problem I can bung that in the tumble dryer. The books are another matter. I don't want the pages to stick together. Both of the books were keepers. Any body got any tips?
Chrissy
Kitchen towel between the worst pages, then lay them in a warm place with a covering weight (weight bigger than book). That should stop the pages from doing that weird fanning thing that wet books do. Good luck! What were the books?
poppy
If they're books you really value, you could try asking the library if they would dry them for you.
vodkafan
The books are Notes From A Small Island by Bill Bryson and Infidel the autobiography of Ayaan Hirsi Ali
Eleonora
I use rice, normal common rice, Vodkafan. First I put some kitchen towel between the pages and then I put the book - with the towel still in - in a big bowl full of rice: it will absorb the humidity out of the pages. Athena
I'm sorry to hear that James, I hope the books can be salvaged .
gardengirl
probably too late now Vf but what I did was use a hair dryer at full blast while riffling through the pages! It did work, though the pages were slightly crinkly.
ray89
Oh the same thing happened me a few days ago - I just turned on the radiator and hung the book over it and it dried out. The pages still stayed crinkly but at least I could still read it.

Ben
I echo Eleonora's statements: regular rice works for me every time. I've used it to dry everything from books to iPod screens.
