Athena Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Us Brits love to share with our European neighbours! x Aww, we love you too . x So far the wind is not too bad here .. the rain is awful though and the road is flooding .. if it continues then we might be in trouble ... it's already breached the pavement and, as we have no front garden to speak of, the basement might be affected. The fallen leaves have just made it more difficult for the drains to cope .. if the rain should let up for a while though it should be okay .. fingers crossed. All our fence panels and trees are holding up well .. glad to hear everyone is safe and sound .. what a day!! Betty is paddling again .. she quite likes it I think x Awww Kay, that looks pretty bad! I hope it won't cause too much damage and inconvenience for you . Who's Betty ? I don't remember this name, is she your cat (I do remember you had a cat?)? Quote
poppyshake Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Who's Betty ? I don't remember this name, is she your cat (I do remember you had a cat?)? No .. our cat is Molly and she is not going out .. no sir She is staying where it's warm and cosy .. in sight of her food bowl and curled up on a cushion. Betty is our VW Beetle .. she is currently getting her feet wet (you can just see her in photo's 1 and 2) .. she's used to it though. We'll give her a hot toddy later Quote
lauraloves Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 It not too bad here a few loose bits have been blowing around the farm this morning and some of the pig pens were flooded but no other damage apart from that! Hope everyone else is ok Quote
pontalba Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 (edited) Actually, it doesn't look too bad, as long as it doesn't come up past the curbs and sidewalks. I really hope it doesn't get worse! The wind is dangerous though, what with fences and electric wires coming down. /fingers crossed for all/ They get that sort of flooding in N.O. in any heavy(ish) rain. Actually any old cloudburst will do. heh Yeah, lousy drainage, below sea level. Edited October 28, 2013 by pontalba Quote
Talisman Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 (edited) Being a frequent visitor to Lundy, which is frequently battered by storm force winds, I am no stranger to these sort of conditions. The worst I have experienced there was 80 mph winds which was pretty scary. There was one day I went out down to the beach about 9 or 10 winters ago in those sort of conditions when I was literally swept up into the air and unceremoniously dumped flat on the grass on my behind. The only way I could manage to get back indoors was by crawling on my hands and knees, as I could not get back up again due to the force of the wind. Scary stuff ! I have learnt than from that not to go out when the wind reaches more than 60 mph. That is about what we had last night. I must admit that living in the 2nd highest place in Surrey, in a mobile home, I was a little concerned to hear that a storm like this was coming. I know people that lived up here during the great storm of 1987 and there was extensive damage to property - the village was I believe shut off for several days due to fallen trees. This time though we were very lucky indeed in that the trees that did fall did not block the road (there is only one road in and out of the village) and the only thing that came down was our garden fence. By the time I got to work this morning the worst of it was over and most of the roads were pretty much open as normal. Edited October 28, 2013 by Talisman Quote

bookmonkey Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Glad to hear you all got through OK. We're expecting another storm here in the next few days. We've had one every week for the last four weeks or so. Getting a bit sick of it. Quote
