Weave Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Date of publication? Nationality of author? 1955 English Quote
CuriousGeorgette Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 English Sci-fi author in 1955 - hmmm Arthur C. Clarke I think may have had his first stories published around then, although I think most of his writing was a bit later. So not him. H.G. Wells ... but he was before then. Brian Aldiss - also I think a bit later. And you are currently reading John Wyndham ... so is it a stretch to suggest him - he is really the only British author I can think of who would be publishing around that time? Quote
Chrissy Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 The only other Wyndham I can immediately name is 'The Chrysalids'. Is this the one? Quote
Chrissy Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 OK, here's mine...... “I loved her against reason, against promise, against peace, against hope, against happiness, against all discouragement that could be.” Quote
dtrpath27 Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Now this I've read...the last one I was just wandering around bumping into things. Now the question is where? Quote
frankie Posted June 24, 2014 Author Posted June 24, 2014 Oh boy! I'd like to say this reminds me of Mr Darcy but he never spoke in the first person in the novel.... ? Quote
Anna Begins Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 (edited) I missed this one on Jeopardy tonight Final Jeopardy (none of the people got it either) Category: 20th Century Novel Quotes Question: "It was one of those pictures... so contrived that the eyes follow you...beneath." (The picture was this 5 word quote.) Anyone guess? Edited August 30, 2014 by Anna Begins Quote
frankie Posted August 30, 2014 Author Posted August 30, 2014 I wanted to go with The Da Vinci -code but I'm pretty sure that's not it, and I think it was published in the 21st century, too What was Chrissy's quote, as well? Quote
Anna Begins Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I wanted to go with The Da Vinci -code but I'm pretty sure that's not it, and I think it was published in the 21st century, too What was Chrissy's quote, as well? Good guess, but mine is mid 20th Century. Here is a clue- it's SF and another genre (that would give it away). Quote
Chrissy Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Mine was from Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. Your one Anna is truly bugging me. I know I have read that, but for the life of me I cannot place it. '...and another genre.....' ? I am now both stumped and intrigued. Let me go wrack (or perhaps whack) my brain. Quote
