Well, I don't read much historical fiction, but I've just had a look under your avatar and seen you're reading a Bernard Cornwell book, and I know he writes historical fiction, so I'm going to guess it's one of his?

It is in fact the first book in the series : Rebel by Bernard Cornwell I have just finished reading it and it was a great book.

I am reading Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. His main character is called Humbert Humbert, which shows a lack of imagination on Nabokov's part. Surely he could have thought up a different surname.

Going by the quote, I would think he was still quite young, so is it The Growing Pains of Adrian Mole? (and if it is .. thanks Claire and if it isn't  )

I think once somebody else figured out the author but got the title wrong, and I simply barged in and tried another title, and got it right... Don't mean to sound tyrannical and mean, but if we waited around til the person who got the author right guessed the book right as well, it might get a bit boring for the rest... And I don't think anyone really minds
