anisia Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Definitely The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. Looking over the list of books I've read so far this year, I don't seem to be too generous with the ratings unlike other years. Quote
willoyd Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Never enough mentions of non-fiction books here, so thought I should (mention one, that is!). Have recently finished Seasons in the Sun by Dominic Sandbrook. Huge tome on the 1974-79 years, very very readable, and earning 5/6. My top non-fiction so far this year. Quote
Eleonora Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 You know what?! It's so hard to choose the best stories among the books I've read so far because there was something good in every single one I've read in this 2013. After a lot of thinking, I made up my mind: Corrag - Susan Fletcher 5/5 The Snow Child - Eowyn Ivey 5/5 A Greyhound of a Girl - Roddy Doyle 5/5 And a Oriana Fallaci book, not translated in english yet. Another 5/5 Then I also enjoyed The Song of Ice and Fire.. the first 5 books - G.R.R. Martin 4/5 The Casual Vacancy - J. Rowling 4/5 Barney's Version - Mordechei Richler 4/5 Millennium Trilogy - Stieg Larsson 4/5 Quote
Little Pixie Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I recently finished Haruki Murakami`s 1Q84 ( books 1-3 ) and thought it was jaw-droppingly good. Certainly my pick of the year, so far. Quote
Carelia Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 I had little idea of what to expect when I read The Night Circus, and I ended up really loving it. This makes me want to read the night circus! It's been on my kindle wishlist for a while, but somehow I have never gone for it. My favourites off the top of my head this year must be The snow child, by Eowyn Ivey, and The Help by Kathryn Stocket. Really enjoyed both of them and hadnt really had any expectations to them when I started them. Quote
Sakura Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 I really loved Name of the Wind and A Wise Man's Fear. Quote
