Tiger Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Hello everyone, I was wondering if you could help me? I'm nearly at the end of my A level history course, and our teacher has told us to read as many books surrounding Charles I as possible, particularly on the period between 1629 and 1642 over the next two months. I've read a few books already, but our teacher insists that we read new material right up until the exam so that we can develop our arguments and practice supporting our arguments. I've read the followng: * The King's Peace by C.V. Wedgwood, which I read for my coursework * Monarchy by David Starkey * Regicide and Rebellion by Graham E. Seel * The English Civil Wars by Angela Anderson Could anyone reccommend some good material to read? Thanks a lot! Quote
willoyd Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 (edited) Could anyone reccommend some good material to read? Thanks a lot! Three books I'd suggest: Charles I: A Life of Religion, War and Treason by Christopher Hibbert For an overview of the Civil War: Civil War: The War of the Three Kingdoms by Trevor Royle Drilling down into a more detailed look at a critical time: The Noble Revolt by John Adamson The latter is probably rather more than you'd want at A-Level, but it is an outstanding book!
