frankie Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 (edited) Hee hee maybe we need to head over to Frankie's language/cultures thread to discuss this one... Maybe Isn't a four by four a plank of wood? Edit: Or did you mean it as in: what do you do in different cultures when people are snowed in their cars. If you have a four by four, what do you do with it. Hit them in the head, or else? And if else, please write down below. Oh hey you guys!! Jänet's just posted a pic on FB, I think she's fine Phew!!!!! Edited December 11, 2013 by frankie Quote
chaliepud Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 I'm pretty sure Kay was referring to a 4x4 (all wheel drive) car.. Quote
frankie Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 I'm pretty sure Kay was referring to a 4x4 (all wheel drive) car.. I'm Rolling on the Floor, Laughing... No wonder it sounded odd to begin with, because I've heard of 'two-by-four' but not 'four-by-four'... :D Hahhahahaha! Quote
frankie Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 (edited) At least you learnt something new! Most definitely... :D So funny! Did you imagine in your head a car with which poppyshake would hit Janet in the head??? She'd have to be like Pippi Longstocking, the strongest girl in the world Edit: And now I definitely see why you said maybe we should take this to the language thread... I wasn't sure initially what you meant by it... :D Edited December 11, 2013 by frankie Quote
poppyshake Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 A 4x4? That's like a four-by-four? What the hell are you going to do with it?? You're not going to hit her in the head with it... Na'ah, I'm not allowing you in the search party! Hit Janet on the head!! Sorry frankie .. I did indeed mean a four wheel drive (thanks Hayley) .. to use with the tow rope. I don't know if you can drive .. I can't but surely - together - we could work it out. I've driven a lot in dreams so it can't be that different Anyway .. if Janet's in trouble then we must risk life and limb Ahh .. Janet is safe and sound .. jolly good You are welcome... And no, we absolutely can't! You using a noncommon font is all the more deleting I have to do to play the game... Sorry darling, Mommy's tired... Mommy won't play tomorrow... There there. Now, go to bed. I will if you give me chocolate .. I'm very sorry about the noncommon font *looks shamefaced* even on forums I find a way of being troublesome ... they should lock me up really for my own sake Quote
frankie Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 (edited) Hit Janet on the head!! I'm sorry but I thought you were speaking of a plank of wood and if you weren't going to turn Jänet's car into a sauna... Although maybe she was very cold and frozen... Maybe you did want to light up a fire in her car... Never mind, I'm so sorry I doubted your good will!!! Sorry frankie .. I did indeed mean a four wheel drive (thanks Hayley) .. to use with the tow rope. I don't know if you can drive .. I can't but surely - together - we could work it out. I've driven a lot in dreams so it can't be that different. Anyway .. if Janet's in trouble then we must risk life and limb A 4x4 sounds odd a description for a car... 4 times 4 is what, 16, and I don't think even Jänet has such a new superb car to have 16 wh.... I'm sooo embarrassed. Wheels is different from tires. I will shut up now I can drive, but I haven't driven in over 10 years, so it might be tricky... But at least I've passed an exam on driving with snow on the ground, ahem ahem!! I will if you give me chocolate .. So funny you should say that, because I've had chocolate I don't want to eat since Friday... A pal came over and gave me a big 300g bar of chocolate. It's good chocolate, but I'm trying to diet.... If anybody wants to come over, they can have the choccy! I'm very sorry about the noncommon font *looks shamefaced* even on forums I find a way of being troublesome ... they should lock me up really for my own sake Look honey. I wouldn't have it any other way. You are you, and you are awesome Edit: No wait. Wheels are the same as tires. !! You guys are so odd. Edit: I've noticed that when I'm stressed, my English goes sour. I've noticed in the past few months, being uptight and stressed and stuff, I've done loads more typos and mistakes than usual. Maybe I should stay away til I'm fully relaxed.... Edited December 11, 2013 by frankie Quote
chaliepud Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Nope, wheels are wheels and tyres are tyres. Quote
frankie Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 (edited) Nope, wheels are wheels and tyres are tyres. Crap... Now you are honestly making me google.... Although as far as I know, tires are tires... Edit: chalie you meanie... Wheels are the same as tires... Edited December 11, 2013 by frankie Quote
chaliepud Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 No they're not. Sorry! Wheels are the inner, normally metal part, tyres are the inflatable bit.. But you were close! Quote
frankie Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 (edited) No they're not. Sorry! Wheels are the inner, normally metal part, tyres are the inflatable bit.. But they are in the same rolly bit ... That makes the car move and move and move? Because... I'm not a car girl... But okay, I have to admit, that now I know another thing I knew not before... Awesome But you were close! Phew! Edit: I base my stuff on having heard people say they drive 'four wheel' things... And that's why Edited December 11, 2013 by frankie Quote
Brian. Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 4x4 is short hand for the driven wheel configuration in motor vehicles. The first number is the number of wheels and the second number is the number of wheels actually powered by the engine. Most cars in the UK are 4x2 because they have 4 wheels but only 2 (normally the front 2) are driven by the engine. Quote

Janet Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Haha you guys! I'm safe and well, thanks - but life is somewhat hectic right now. No being bashed round the head with wood or large automobiles, no snow drifts... and I didn't actually make it to Norway... in fact, I didn't make it out of Somerset. Sorry. I would love to come go to Finland one day (*note to self - buy thermals!). I have taken 10 days to read one book. Not lack of mojo this time, just lack of time. #It's the most wonderful time of the year... but it is also a very busy one, so my reading has slowed down. I'm concerned that I might even struggle to read A Christmas Carol this year. I've been out with Abi today. She had a mock exam this morning and then finished school at 11am so I collected her and took her to do some Christmas shopping. We had such a lovely day together - we do have a laugh. We were even reindeer at one point...! *cough* Oh, and my favourite colour is turquoise *cough* Quote
frankie Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 Haha you guys! I'm safe and well, thanks - but life is somewhat hectic right now. Thank goodness, you've had us worried!!! I told poppyshake you having finished a book on GR didn't mean anything, but having seen you pose with Abi assured me it was all okay.. Phew! No being bashed round the head with wood or large automobiles, no snow drifts... and I didn't actually make it to Norway... in fact, I didn't make it out of Somerset. Sorry. I would love to come go to Finland one day (*note to self - buy thermals!). I would love to have you over! Housing always promised, but unfortunately for you only, me living in one room flats... So if you're traveling with family, you needs to book a hotel I have taken 10 days to read one book. Not lack of mojo this time, just lack of time. #It's the most wonderful time of the year... but it is also a very busy one, so my reading has slowed down. I'm concerned that I might even struggle to read A Christmas Carol this year. OH dearsies... ! But like you said, it's that time of year... It'll get better I've been out with Abi today. She had a mock exam this morning and then finished school at 11am so I collected her and took her to do some Christmas shopping. We had such a lovely day together - we do have a laugh. I love it how you and your daughter have such a close, comfortable relationship... And you and your Mum, too! Okay, okay, ... Janet wrote: Oh, and my favourite colour is turquoise *cough* Oh really? I had no idea... How nice for you. Quote
Brian. Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Oh Brian... You lost me at 'driven wheel'... I thought I might The engine only actually powers certain wheels on some cars. 2 Wheel Drive 4 Wheel Drive Quote
frankie Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 I thought I might The engine only actually powers certain wheels on some cars. Oh Brian... You probably didn't read my earlier posts about what kind of a guy I would like to / not like to get to know... One of the pet peeves of mine is a guy who's car ... shall we say ... knowledgeable. Quote
Janet Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Okay, I can see I'm not special enough to get my posts quoted in my favourite colour. Maybe I'll make it to Finland one day - that would be awesome! I'm sure Peter would like to come too. Luke and Abi don't tend to come away with us now, although I'm sure if we were going abroad they'd probably both decide they just had to holiday with their parents! Quote
Brian. Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Sorry Given my line of work it's probably a good thing that I posses this knowledge though. Quote
frankie Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 (edited) Okay, I can see I'm not special enough to get my posts quoted in my favourite colour. Oh darling Jänet... You would have gotten your posts quoted in your favorite color, if it wasn't so bloody late already I'm in the midst of thinking I should go to bed... And I did the last bit in your favorite color, didn't I? <3 Maybe I'll make it to Finland one day - that would be awesome! I'm sure Peter would like to come too. Luke and Abi don't tend to come away with us now, although I'm sure if we were going abroad they'd probably both decide they just had to holiday with their parents! It would be awesome to meet you guys! You might prefer the summer... It's loads nicer in the summer You could tolerate the temperatures then, and it would be sunny almost 24/7... You wouldn't want to go back! Edited December 11, 2013 by frankie Quote
frankie Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 Sorry No worries I'm just not a very techy person Given my line of work it's probably a good thing that I posses this knowledge though. Most definitely is! You know, when I was visiting my parents in Nurmes last week, I was watching TV and there was this airplane crash thingy on TV... I don't know or remember what the TV program is called, but it's a series about airplane crashes and the technical stuff. This case was the one that 'inspired' the TCAS system. I assume you must know what it is. I was watching it and felt awful But I did think thank goodness we have Brian, he'll sort it all out! Quote

frankie Posted December 13, 2013 Author Posted December 13, 2013 Hi Frankie How's Titus Groan coming along are you still enjoying it ? Hi Kidsmum! How's it going? Titus Groan isn't coming along... My mojo suffered a major blow and it went AWOL. I've a trap for it, so I could get it back, by doing some re-reading, and I see mojo's lurking behind some trees in the far distance... I might have a shot with him, but it's not going to be easy, and it's not going to happen all too soon! Mean bugger... Quote
