Yea, your country is a whole big giant treasure chest of history that I have barely glazed the surface of . Sadly, the only book I can currently think of that might be considered history from your country might be The Thorn Birds ..so I'm not sure that it would quite qualify . I have Cloudstreet on my Kindle ,yet to read .

I also think True History of the Kelley Gang looks good . Can you recommend others that would be interesting reads ?

*I've also read a few true crime books set over there ,so I guess they'd SORTA be called history of a type ....

Hope you guys didn't get injured when you got hit . Did it do much damage to the car ?

The back bumper is pretty scraped up, and torn some, I'm bringing it in tomorrow to have it checked out.  There could be some underlying damage, I just don't know yet.  I'm really thankful, as the other two cars that hit me are really torn up.  I'm so glad we went ahead and bought a high riding Jeep!!

Charles felt his back and neck twinge, so they brought him to the hospital to be checked out, and they said he was ok.  Thankfully.  I'm still a bit stiff, but seem ok otherwise.

I ordered and have received that Roanoke book.  It's in the stack, near the top now. :)

It's hot as blazes here, the humidity is enough to swim in, too.  Had a thunder shower today, cooled it off for about 3 minutes, then it was hotter and steamier than before!  We won't be needing any jackets till November now.  Sheesh.

Wow ,that sounds like it could have been a much worse outcome with the car crash . The jeep probably did help somewhat more than a regular car would have . I'm glad neither of you were hurt badly .

Glad you got the book so quickly and I hope you enjoy it . I read it in a very short time, because it was so interesting . I'd like to hear what your thoughts on it are after reading it ... if you believe the stones are legitimate , a hoax, or possibly some are legitimate and some aren't .

It'd sure be nice if they actually did tell the true story of what happened . There are very few historical situations like that , that don't have an answer . I guess another one is the ship Mary Celeste that was found with no one on board, no signs of violence, etc ... These types of stories are really interesting and keep your brain thinking ,wondering about all the possibilities .

Wish Her Safe at Home - Stephen Benatar

This book wins as the absolute strangest book I have ever read. I'm not even sure how to describe it other thaan to say it is the story of a lady who is slowly unraveling . She tells you her story, and in the beginning ,she makes a little sense, but as time goes on, it gets a little bit stranger  . By the end, you feel like YOU are slipping some cogs right along with her .

I have no idea what rating it deserves. The writing was excellent, but the story was a real DOOZY .

I can't really give any more of it away ,because it'd ruin the book .

Let's just say it's kinda like being blindfolded ,sat in a race car driving backwards ,and each time around the track you go faster .

If you are in a reading SLOG and need something to grab your attention , get your blindfold and get ready for a ride .

Julie, I'm a bit more than half way through the Roanoke book, and enjoying it.  Fascinating the theories about the veracity of the stones, and the reasoning behind why the colonists were left there to begin with.

Thanks again! :D

I'll post a review when I finish.

Crap .

I had a whole post ready and lost it .

I thought I'd come in here and do a bit of dusting and see if I can find my reading corner and a stiff drink and get back into gear with my reading .

I cannot believe the year is half over . My reading totals so far this year are lackluster to say the least .

Lots of family issues going on the past few months which would make a Preacher Cuss .

An update on the health news : I went this week for the injections to trace any remaining cancer .Bloodwork tomorrow and answers next week . Oddly, I'm not Scared Spitless like I'd normally be. Too many other things in an uproar to even take the energy to worry about anything else .

If these tests show ok, I need to go in and get my other knee surgery done next. It was supposed to be done last fall, but I keep putting it off .

Hubster's job is looking shakey. He's worked the same place for 37 years ,but it sounds like they will either be closing down or be bought out . 125 / 300 in their building have already been let go .

The job situation kinda makes the knee surgery higher up on the list of HURRY UP things, mainly because if the job goes, so does the insurance .

Oh well, that's life .. we'll manage just like we always do  .

Anyhow, I thought maybe if I bump my dusty booklist off and chew myself out ,maybe it will remind me to get busy and read again .

So, GET YOUR REAR IN GEAR , JULIE .    :(

Thanks for the well wishes, guys .  It'll be ok ,no matter what . It's weird how you get used to things after awhile and they don't affect you as they once did . Maybe it comes with age ?  Or maybe you just learn that no matter how much you worry about something, it'll turn out whatever way it's supposed to ,so you really have no control over it .

On the Reading Front -

I did manage to read a few chapters yesterday ,so that's a start anyhow .   :)

Thank you Kidsmum

You're right, the old brain does tend to lean in a lot of bad directions when you are waiting for news . I guess I've just learned that it doesn't do any good to worry . Whatever the answer is, I can't change it . All I can do is accept it and if anything further needs done, I'll have to do it .

The nurse last week told me that they've only had a "handful" of patients in the last year that had the same thing , whose Cancer still showed when they did the retests . So the odds would be in my favor ,but I handle things better if I prepare for worst-case-scenario . You really don't have to prepare for GOOD news .

It helps too that I have a Cleveland Clinic Dr for this ,so I couldn't ask for better care . He'll take good care of me .   :)

Hi Julie hope you get the good news you need and then your surgery. You have so much piled on your plate you are doing a marvellous thing keeping yourself serene. Keeping everything crossed for you.  :flowers2:

Thank you James

A couple years ago if I would have been in this position , I'd be in Panic Mode . I guess there's something to be said for having lots of chronic illnesses . You know that your only course of action is to do as they tell you and hope for the best .

The knee surgery will be my 2nd. I had the other replaced about 3 years ago . If I can do it once, I can do it again .

I think I regard TOUGHNESS as one of the best qualities a person can have ,so I try my hardest to be TOUGH .

( Sometimes I totally fall apart, but don't tell anyone ) .
