Sofia Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 (edited) We still have power...although parts of my town is in the dark..last I heard I think there were about 120,000 without power in the state.... though I haven't been able to check because the power company site is down at the moment. The lights have flickered a little bit though. The wind gusts are getting wicked as well....can feel the house shake...on the plus side the higher wind gusts are supposed to cease a bit sooner than expected. Right about now Sandy is hitting Southern NJ...luckily my sister is in Northern NJ! Now is when it starts to get fun :/ *edit: so now we are at about 400,000 without power....we keep having little surges....grrrr! Edited October 30, 2012 by Sofia Quote

muggle not Posted October 30, 2012 Author Posted October 30, 2012 (edited) Got a text today from GD, but no more texts she says as there is no power and she needs to keep the cell phone for emergencies. She is ok, winds are high but not too bad, no flooding in her location ....yet.....but it is raining hard. she doesn't know much about the rest of the NYC since she is out of power. We know more than she does about the devastation. There was one area of NYC where 80 homes burned down because they couldn't get to them due to flooding and high winds....terrible. muggle not Posted October 30, 2012 Author Posted October 30, 2012 The aftermath.......looking at all the devastation on television just brings tears to your eyes. It is so sad and is so widespread. I feel very fortunate that i wasn't near the storm's path. Quote

muggle not Posted October 31, 2012 Author Posted October 31, 2012 (edited) I'm so pleased your granddaughter is okay, Muggles! I spoke too soon. GD just called us on her cell phone. She has been without "power' and is cold and has been living in the dark with no lights or heat in her dorm. She is now on a bus to New Jersey to stay with her other grandmother until Monday. She really didn't sound too good as she now has a cold on top of it. She has little idea of the devastation as she has been without TV. The college closed down her dorm and several others and they are trying to consolidate into several other buildings. Students that have a way of leaving are doing so. GD took a local bus to the station where she caught another bus to NJ. I feel terrible as I am too far away to help. Edited November 1, 2012 by muggle not Quote
