Polka Dot Rock
I looked briefly at 'Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell' by Susanna Clarke and got into it, so I am also reading now that. :eek2: Aw, brilliant! I really hope you like it Paula, it was one of my reading highlights of last year (I read it during the heatwave, of all times ). Please keep us updated on what you think of it as you go along

Weave
I really enjoyed 'The Secret of Crickley Hall' by James Herbert, as I mentioned before I had went off James Herbert a tad because of 'The Dark', but 'The Secret of Crickley Hall' was a great read, I liked the story and the characters. Kell
... I had went off James Herbert a tad because of 'The Dark'... Me too! I thought it was dreadfully dull and particularly badly written - a big disappointment, having enjoyed much of his other work. I think I'll be giving Crickley Hall a try a some point though - I've heard good things and it sounds like Herbert's back on track again... Weave
I finished 'The Handmaid's Tale' by Margaret Atwood and I am now concentrating on 'The Black Dahila' by James Ellroy.
Weave
I have just started 'The Blind Assassin' by Margaret Atwood, this will be the third time (three times a charm eh?) I could not concentrate on it but I am going to make a considerable effort over the next few days. I am also still plowing through 'The Black Dahila' by James Ellroy, I do enjoy his style of writing, even though it is a crime novel, you would not think it was, anyway, I am finding it a bit of a trial but I am going to keep going. And as a sideline book, I am going to re-read 'The Time Traveler's Wife' by Audrey Niffenegger, because I just love this book so much and its a essential read. Kell
I am giving up (temporarily) on 'The Blind Assassin' by Margaret Atwood. Although I'm not reading this one, I'm having a bit of bother with another Atwood book - The Robber Bride. I'm just not getting into it at all and I'm wondering what all the fuss is about when it comes to her writing. I listened to an audio book of The Handmaid's Tale and although I quite enjoyed it, I didn't think it was anything to write home about. I'm now wondering if I'll bother with The Blind Assassin - I think I'll wait till yhou've finished it and see what you thought of it overall... Weave
Hi Kell, I found 'The Robber Bride' quite difficult to get into, but once I did, I did enjoy it, her books are so varied (as you know), I read 'Lady Oracle' also by Margaret Atwood and I could not put it down from the first page. I think it really depends on the story, I don't know how much you have read of 'The Robber Bride' (apologies if you said and I just missed it totally) but I really found it difficult to get in 'The Robber Bride' because Zenia was just plain mean. Weave
I also really enjoyed 'Oryx and Crake' by Margaret Atwood but I forgot to post a review, but it was really well written.
