Set in Norfolk in 1643 This is no ordinary tale. It takes most of the book to relate anything that happens to the sea. Even then the connection feels contrived. However the book is well written and very enjoyable so I'll forgive it that.
Thomas Treadwater comes home from the civil war that is raging to find that things are not at all well at home. Accusations of witchcraft abound and Thomas's sister is very upset. The woman she accuses of witchcraft has been arrested and is in jail. It's not long before the whole tale unravels and Thomas finds out how the real perpetrator is.
Very interesting indeed and kept me reading from the beginning.
