  1. #109   The Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party - Alexander McCall Smith

Book 12 in the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency series, set in Botswana. At this stage, it`s not about the mysteries as much as the ongoing adventures of Mma Makutsi (  and her shoe trouble, plus ongoing saga with her nemesis Violet ), Mma Ramotswe ( and her van trouble ) and Charlie the apprentice mechanic ( and his women troubles ).  It`s a lovely, gentle, slow-paced read ( quotes here ) and very funny.

  2. Oh, she is beautiful!

No weight lose, these cats don't go outside. :)  It's so wooded around here with critters roaming about.  I haven't let any cats out since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.  They don't seem to mind, they lounge about a lot!

Check out The Millions thread I started, you might get some more preorder ideas......../evil grin/

Thank you - she has such a sweet nature too.  :D

Some goodies to pre-order there. Must not look closely.  :lurker:

  3. Thanks! :D Yeah, all three of my moggies love to hog the spotlight. Whenever I try and take pictures of new books they come and plonk themselves down in the middle of the photo, as though saying "look at meeeeeee!" Cuties. :giggle2:

" Mum ! Why you read books instead of play wiv me ".  :giggle2:

  4. These two cats usually stay downstairs, but Goldy comes up early in the morning, just so we don't forget to feed them first thing. :D

Hot as blue blazes here, still.  Rain is letting up and that just encourages the heat.  /sigh/

Xiao-Xiao used to wake me up by sitting on the windowsill and playing with the windchimes. Then she realised that shredding the back of the curtain was even more effective.

Just looked up your weather - 33C ! Your poor cats. Do they lose weight in the heat ?

    Yes.  Oopsies, indeed!  :P

I`ve realised that I have a huge amount of excuses for book buying. The favourite one is ` there`s only one book left ! I must buy it now, `cos it`ll never, ever be available again anywhere !! ` :giggle2:

  5.

Probably worth me pointing out I happily read and enjoyed all four Twilight books. :giggle: I don't read for the sake of critical assessment or personal development, I read for funsies.

    :giggle2:  `Funsies` sounds so much better than `reading for entertainment`.  :D

  6. Thanks! It cooled down a bit overnight and slightly yesterday during the day, but today it'll be even hotter or so they predict. Later today though there may be thunderstorms and rain and then it should cool down in the next few days (although for some areas they predict it'll be a lot colder!).

Cold enough to wear a jumper today  :o  - the cat has been able to sleep on my bed for the past couple of nights ( previously, she was sleeping dowmstairs in the sitting room on her ottoman, where it was cooler ).

The credit card statement came today - 3 supermarket charges, 1 magazine renewal ( Oprah ) , 1 pre-paid prescription thingy, and 24 charges for books. Oopsies.   :giggle:

  7. I didn't know there were TV movies as well? I'm so behind with things, I've only just discovered the book series :D I hope you will like the books if you ever decide to read them :)

Erm, I don`t know now if they were TV movies or long episodes ; anyway, they`re the ones with Rolf Thingysson, so I think we`re talking about the same ones.

  8. :giggle2: but very good work for your part for recycling  :JC_cookies: (and there was no plastic packaging in the 'virtual cookies'!  :giggle2:

Thank you ! * nom nom nom*  :giggle2:

I`m pretty much done with yesterday`s newspapers now ( with new ideas for books to look up, what with all those ` what you must read this Summer` articles... )  No actual book-reading again. Shall be better prepared next month and get the papers out of the way before hand.

Congrats to all the other read-a-thoners !  :D

  9. Ahh, you know exactly what I mean!  :hide:  :D

    I certainly do - I really didn`t like `that thing ` either.  :D

I`ve seen it happen in a few books recently ; the author finds some way of separating the characters by distance or by giving one of them amnesia. It`s all a way of racking up tension. But previous books in their series have been tense enough, so why do things the readers don`t like ?? I want all my characters to remain friends ! *rant ends*
