  1. Just bought this, along with Nicholls' first book, 'starter for ten', which I just finished in three days, couldn't stop. Would reccomend it, reminded me of the Adrian Mole series from years ago, and a bit of reminiscing of my early times at university, though not so cringeworthy! Am looking forward to 'The understudy'. Have you read his second book, 'One Day'?
  2. Subtitled 'Biography of the fish that changed the world', or something very similar. I first picked it up out of interest in fishing and the dwindling resource it represents in today's world, and it didn't disappoint me. Kurlansky writes in an informative yet interesting style, so even when presenting arguments you find yourself drawn into the book as if it is a story much lighter than what he is presenting. Am just waiting for another of his, Salt, hopefully it will be as interesting as this. He has done a number of other books, most notably one on the year 1968 and many of the 'world changing' events which took place. Anyone read any of his work?
  3. I saw the movie a couple of years ago and enjoyed it, but the book was far better. Finished it on the train last night and had to try my hardest not to shed a tear. Wife asked me why I wasn't talking much when she picked me up from the station, was just a bit emotional. Thought the book transcended simply a dog story, and showed a lot we could learn from the relationships in it. I loved the contradictory quotes on the back cover of my copy, one journo saying how much it would appeal to everyone, and another stating how you would have to be a dog lover to enjoy it... Has anyone read any of Grogan's other books?
