Also, at the beginning the prince is cruel and uncaring, but the slave starts changing him... He wasn't the prince's slave at the beginning, but a scribe for when the prince was holding court. The slave used to be a warrior who enters the souls of the possessed, but when he was caught he was put through some kind of torture by the empire's priests designed to rid people like him of his powers, so he thinks that he is powerless. He later learns (when he goes back to his homeland) that he still has his power. To enter a persons soul, another person (a woman I think) is needed to make and hold a connection. In the end of the series (or the book, I'm not sure...) he has to enter the prince's soul to fight a demon leader, who he can only defeat with the price's help. I remember that when he battles demons inside peoples souls he can grow wings.
