  1. The recorder is a beautiful instrument when played well. Have you listened to any of Michaela Petri's recordings? Magic. I'm also trying to learn classical guitar. I am taking lessons although they tend not to be very regular because of other commitments (both mine and my teacher's) I also sing bass in the local choral society.
  2. I think it was "Child of our Time" by Tippet. I haven't listened to it yet. Keep putting it off because I think I will hate it! My choral society will be singing it next year so I thought I ought to know what it sounds like.
  3. There is currently a particularly dreadful advert for coffee running on Classic fm - a woman singing (badly) to a can of instant coffee.Drives Mrs Bill mad!
  4. I love biographies. I recently re-read Sarah Bradfords biography of George VI. Others I have read in recent months are "Darwin" by Desmond and Moore and "Charles Dickens" by Michael Slater. I have a stack of others which I have read over the years - it would take forever to list them all. I am currently reading "John Henry Newman" by Ian Ker which I must confess I am finding a bit of a struggle. Determined to get through it though.
  5. What do you call a fly with no wings? A walk.
  6. Good morning everyone. My name is Bill, I am over 21 and live in Nottinghamshire. I retired from medical practice 3 years ago and now seem to have less time to myself than I had then. I am married with 2 children and 4 grandchildren. I have less opportunity to read than I would like as I need quiet or at most some gentle non-vocal music to read by. I read non-fiction, particularly biographies which I love, but also classic fiction (I am currently trying to work my way through Charles Dickens - reading Bleak House at the moment) and historical fiction (I love the Aubrey/Maturin novels of Patrick O'Brian and the Shardlake novels of C.J.Sansom). The last book I completed was Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh which I thought was brilliant. I am also fond of Agatha Christie for a lighter read and have read the Sherlock Holmes stories numerous times. I don't seem to be able to get on with many modern authors. My other interests are golf, fly-fishing and gardening. If anyone is still awake after reading this drivel I look forward to chatting with you when I have explored the fora a little. God Bless Bill
