  1. Well I’m about 170 pages into The Night Circus and I have to say, so far I’m kind of disappointed. I really feel like I ought to love this book but the characters so far are just not likeable at all. They are very bland which is a stark contrast to my previous book Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I’m just not feeling the magic that every one else has described. I think I’ve made a rookie error here. I should have changed genre after Daughter of Smoke and Bone then went back to The Night Circus so that I could appreciate it for what it is. I really hope it gets better further in
  2. Always love a good bargain happy reading! My copy of The Night Circus came today, so excited to get reading tonight, ive actually had withdrawals these past two days!
  3. I have no books to read, amazon should have delivered The Night Circus on friday but it hasnt come so I've got nowt until tomorrow and could I sleep last night, no!
  4. Yay I'm so proud I'm very sure you will enjoy it (well I hope so )
  5. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor - 5/5 I loved practically everything about this book. The characters are lovable, every setting is beautifully described and the story keeps dragging you in. Its the sort of book where you think 'just one more chapter' and before you know it it's 1am! This book is the story of a 17year old girl called Karou. With her blue hair, curious tattoo's and her stories and drawings of weird and wonderful creatures her freinds just think shes eccentric. Litlle do they know that Karou leads a double life, being an art student to all her friends and a errand girl to 4 monstrous beasts that bought her up from a baby. The 4 chimerea are the only people she knows as family but when an errand brings her face to face with and angel ready to destroy her, her world quickly turns upside down and all of the unanswered questions she's lived with finally start to unravell.
  6. I'm not really a hard core scifi reader so I think I'll be ok, Karsa is the scifi man so if he says itd good then it must be
  7. Its huuuuggggeeee! I can't have wish lists that big, I'm like a kid, I need a sense of achievement when I tick a book off and its more noticable to tick a book off a big list than it is a small one Ive got a strict criterea for my list haha. So far it has worked though, out of 6 books last month 5 were really really good and one was a load of poop
  8. See this is why people should write good reviews as well as bad. I have to admit I don't usually go by stars I pick one good review and one bad one and decide from from that. I do personally think the write up is good though. I'm quite looking forward to reading it Every one ive asked have said the Man in The High Castle is very good. I'd quite like to read Valis next though
  9. Well if your not enjoying it then id say move on especiallyif youhave another book you'd rather read! I hope Shakespears Landlord is better thank Think!
  10. I trust your judgement and ive put it on my amazon list I can't find the original paper back version of shutter island on amazon I don't want the version with Leonardo Dicaprio's face on it, its not that he's not pretty but I don't want people to think I'm only reading it because of him, the people at work will rip me and I quite like reading at my desk on my lunch break Yay another Flowers for Algernon fan, see Andrea, you have to join us I love Philip K Dick, definatly worth a re-read!
  11. Only problem with that is when you finally do get one of your wish list it ends up being better than all the spur of the moment buys and you kick your self
  12. Haha I have the same habbit of buying things that are not on the wishlist! Now I make a nice big wish list on amazon and which ever is on sale first usually sways my descion
  13. Let me know what you think of I Am Number Four, ive looked at it a few times but I'm not yet convinced enough to put it on the ever growing wishlist!
  14. So whats next?!
  15. Eeeep my wish list is getting better (and longer.) Thank you every one for sharing your reviews and contributing to my thread How does everyone choose which books to read in what order! I think I will do 2 fantasy 2 scifi and so on. I lke to break it up. I'm loving Daughter of Smoke and Bone so much at the moment, why didnt I read it sooner! Its such a perculiar thing to enjoy different books for different reasons. I like this book in a completly differnt way to say A scanner Darkly or Flowers for Algernon but I love Daughter of Smoke and bone in the same way I loved Harry Potter I hope you all like the books on my list as much as I do
  16. I got the reviews off of Library thing!! I also remember there being a thread on it a while back with similar opinions. I have to say it does sound really good, is it difficult to keep up with? If not I'll add it onto my wish list! Yay I can't say anything with out spoiling it but I hope you see where I made the connection with shutter island! Ive never read the book, is it good? I loved the film so it must be. I think I'll go look for the book
  17. I Havent read The Anubis Gates however I did read a few reviews on it a while ago and mostly every one reported that they got a bit lost and the a few people abandoned it. I have to say though the write up does sound really good, I'm not very good at keeping up sometimes though so it might be a bit tricky for me? Habibi on the other hand has lots of good reviews but I don't think its my sort of read.
  18. I saw this book in Waterstones today, it caught my eye but I wasnt sure if it was for young adult or children so I didnt bother reading the back! Maybe I'll check it out on amazon now
  19. Oh wow what an awesome site! I love this sort of thing, Thanks
  20. Ooo yeh it has to be earth bound, I'm not a fan of things like startrek/wars etc. My friend has just bought The Man in the high castle. I'm just waitng to see what she thinks. I'm not keep on anything space shippy either! Ive just ordered (as I'm typing) The Night Circus from amazon. I found it in Waterstones on my break and the cover is so pretty even if its not good the £7 was worth it just to look at the cover on my shelf
  21. I'm glad you enjoyed it too. Its such a quirky read, I'm looking forward to the next installment... I hope it has pictures too
  22. What did you think of Miss Peregrins home for peculiar children? I really enjoyed it
  23. I loved Clockwork Angel and Clockwork Prince, Clockwork Prince isnt as action packed but it has other elements that totally make up for it!
  24. Yes Windup Girl was something very new to me. I've never read anything like it before, I think maybe it was the politics in it that got me. It was good, just not what I was expecting. The ending left me feeling a bit undecided. I've had a look through all of the Master Works books and there are alot of titles that have caught my attention. The only thing is that the majority of these books are quite short, I literally eat them within 2 days its not a bad thing but it leaves me looking again haha! I'm totally loving Daughter of Smoke and Bone at the moment, its beautifully written, Laini Taylor is such a gifted writer, the book is just seemless, every description is effortless and natural. I thinking maybe I will look for something more Fantasy for my next read. have you read The Night Circus?
