  1. Yay to your avatar! The best Sherlock Holmes ever. Just had to say that. =)

  2. Packed up another little doll to go off to a new home today. Sad times. Bye bye Maple x

  3. I completely agree Mel & Sue are totally right for it. I think you are thinking of "Late Lunch" which was the same sort of program only they moved it to the later time slot. Anyone remember the band? Steve, Matt, Dillon & Dan! They always had a different food based pun name every week. Yeah I thought Rob was going, he's pretty disaster prone. I must admit I do have a bit of a soft spot for him with his floppy hair and all. He'll probably be out next week unless he plays a blinder which seems unlikely! I always watch it on the iplayer. I'm terrible with remembering when things are on. I almost have nostalgic memories of being able to miss things! Its so hard to do now. No I don't think I remember the wedding cakes. I didn't watch the whole last series either. I tend to stick to buns or flapjack in the main now I want to branch out! I know what you mean too I'm not over keen on lemon tart but now feel like trying to make one. Bet someone would eat it! Thanks for the heads up on the book too. I hate finding out the winners early. My sister normally ends up texting me and telling me She's always doing that with Masterchef. Yeap Simon is gone. He was pretty so so the whole time. Yay for Jason as top baker too.
  4. I just caught up on Episode 2 and I want people to geek out with! It really makes me want to bake too which I feel like I have don't in ages. I think I only started watching at the back end of the last series because I realised it was Mel & Sue. Boy I miss "Light Lunch"...anyone remember that? I figured I had to start a topic here too because after scanning the others I don't seem to watch / like any of them. I'm so bad with popular culture!
  5. Oh thats great! Glad to help. I tend to have a main book and a train book myself. My Nana used to always have an upstairs and downstairs book on the go at the same time too.
  6. I've never read Moby Dick though I've had that feeling of something being a slog rather than a joy. I really hate to give up on books but shamefully I have a few times. Some things just aren't going to be for you (or thats how I look at it) and it's totally outweighed by the times you think you're going to hate something and end up loving it. That's happened to me a few times and its the best! As for making it easier, I find a little break helps as long as its not to long. Or just filling time if you have half an hour with it rather than spending a hours with the book. I can only do that if I can't put it down! But then I've always been like that.
  7. I know how that feels, I hope you make it through! Welcome to the forum I'm pretty new myself but so far I'm really liking it here. Every ones really friendly and I've had some great help with book recommendations.
  8. Giggle I'm starting to think maybe I should have heard of this book. I think its now top of my "to get list".
  9. Hello. Its great you looked him up he's a total inspiration to me. I completely recommend his spoken word poetry cd. It's so powerful. Plus even more impressive when you know he overcame a very bad stammer to find his voice. I also have a collection of his work called "fuse". He he I'm a bit fanatical about him as I rarely come across people who read / know of him.
  10. Thank you so much for your replies, thats really helped. I like the word "trustworthy". Its so hard to know if what you are reading is correct. I don't tend to read biographies much for that reason. It sounds like a wonderful book I will be sure to hunt that one out first. Also great to find some other Audrey fans!
  11. I've been a fan for years and about 90% of my DVD collection must be made up of her films but I've never read a biography. Can anyone recommend a good one? I find them a very hard genre to buy.
  12. I am a big poetry lover however I am shamed to admit he must be the only contemporary poet I have read at any length. Does anyone else enjoy his work? His plays also include Everything Must Go & Unprotected Sex. I have the scripts but have sadly never seen them. Despite walking the length of Oxford Road in Manchester looking for the theater to buy tickets! On a side note any contemporary poetry recommendations will be gratefully received. Hmm first real post. Scary.
  13. Update with Toy Story 3 which I watched last night. I cried so much. I should probably worry about that.
  14. Thank you everyone for your welcomes. It is nice to be here, I'm sure I'll settle in just fine. I've been reading Michael Palin's diaries. I remember watching all his travel documentaries when I was younger up till the last one he just did. He's kind of my celebrity father figure! Just in a fun way . It's The Python Years. Though I'm not old enough to have watched the TV series first time round I have seen it and can quote (annoyingly) at length from the films! My train reading is Oscar Wilde the importance of being earnest. Handy because its small.
  15. I recently bought a violin for a prop in my photography and because I'd always wanted to own one. Obviously we are talking about a cheap violin here! I am utterly in love with it and would dearly love to be able to play it. I have tried when everyone is out and its just bad noise! I can play one short thing on the Casio keyboard though!
  16. Quatermass 2...again I've seen the first one a couple of times too. Though not Quatermass and the pit as I think I saw someone mention.
  17. Hello, I just joined tonight and this seemed like the best place to start! I'm a confirmed bookworm and a bit of a night owl. I just adore reading as well as old books and bookshops. I can happily spent hours in a good second hand one, I love the smell of those places. That probably sounds weird! My dream is to own my own bookshop (though I'd be terrible at the whole business side of it I know!) or in fantasy land a published poet. My other big interest is photography and I have a Zenit camera obsession at the minute. I'm looking forward to getting involved here and hope to post often. I am admittedly very shy but I like to think I'm friendly too.
