  1. 1. I bought my house when I was a mere 19 years old (needless to say pre-recession!)

    2. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up

    3. I am a vegetarian

    4. Betty Boop is my religion

    5. I have been with my boyrfriend for 9 (!) years

  2. I bought Labyrinth and Sepulchre at the same time after hearing some great things, I read Labyrinth and thought it was alright but I just didnt get the hype! Maybe I was missing something?

I havent yet been inspired to read Sepulchre.

  3. Vanwa, I have actually ordered Debt of Bones as well which I believe is the prequel to stop this from happening in the future! It is interesting to hear your opinions on the series, I haven't spoken to anyone who has ever read them before! I am even more curious to read Naked Empire now as I thought the Pillars of Creation had ended in a really good place. I wasn't sure whether I would be able to maintain interest in the same characters for this long (this is the longest series I have read) however just as perhaps my interest was showing signs of fading (but only the very smallest of sparks), the tables are turned by writing in a new character who knows less about this world then the reader and not bringing the main characters in till the very end. Thought it was a stroke of genius myself!

Hayley and Kylie, I always think that getting to put the physical book on the shelf when you have finished it is almost a trophy to reward you for reading. I love having all the books in a series sat together looking at me!

  4. Just wanted to vent my frustration! I am currently reading the sword of truth series by Terry Goodkind, finished the 7th book this morning but the 8th book still hasn't arrived! I ordered it on friday through Amazon thinking it would arrive yesterday or today but it hasn't and now I face a bookless journey home on the train tonight.

(hehe this emoticon is called hissy fit, which is indeed what I am having!)

  5. Completely agree, in fact not only is she not scared to tackle them it's like her mission in life is to give all children a reference point whatever they are experiencing. She seems to be working her way through all possible issues that a child could go through!

  6. I buy most of my books second hand, only if there is a book that has been long anticipated and that I want to read the moment it is for sale will I buy new, usually the next of a series. I love second hand books for all the reasons that others have mentioned, the tattier the better in my opinion! I get most of mine from amazon for a penny.

I can't use the library as I hate having to give books back after I have read them, particularly if I have loved it! Same goes for borrowing books, if people want to recommend something to me then I have to have my own copy. My bookshelves are my favourite part of the house!

  7. I know that no one has posted in this thread for a while, but being a newbie I was just searching for some references to the series that I am currently reading, and this was in the results.

Other than the Golden Compass and Eragon which have already been mentioned, the worst adaptation for me was The Time Travellers Wife. Grrrr! Words can't even express how disappointed I was, I did not like the casting of Eric Bana or Rachel McAdams (although I am always stumped when I wonder who would have been better lol!)

I am also nervouse about the rumours of The Dark Tower adaptation. Although in theory it sounds good (especially the suggestion of Javier Bardem as Roland), the fact that Ron Howard is now directing the project disillusions me slightly after what he did to The Da Vinci Code. Was really excited about it when JJ Abrams was in charge!

  8. My favourite word is chuckle, only because even as you say it and hear it it automatically puts a smile on your face. My favourite word to write is aluminium, I get carried away with the loops...

  9. I am generally not a big Stephen King fan, I have issues with stories of the supernatural and the like being set in our world, however I am partial to Wizard and Glass. I would say the Dark Tower series in general as I think it is arguably one of the best both beginnings ('The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed') and endings to a series I have read, however I do think there was a bit of a stumble in the middle! (which I won't mention here in case anyone wants to read them!)

  10. Hi there :)

Thought I would take the opportunity to say hello, as you will have spotted I am new!

My name is Emma, and I am from a little town in Lincolnshire. I have always been a reader, and my daily train commute has helped me to continue this love into my 'adult' life (huh hummm).

I am a PA which is just as interesting as it sounds so I do take any excuse to escape into a different world when the opportunity presents itself. The two main genres I read are historical fiction and fantasy, although I have been known to dabble in the world of crime and romance every now and then!

Other than reading, I spend a lot of time fostering animals on behalf of a local rescue.

Not sure there is much else to know :) I am looking forward to getting involved in some good discussions!

    Emma
