  1. haha I like Cyril as well but we can't agree on anything as usual! I have however forgot how much stink cats can produce! Thankfully they're going on the litter tray now but when I first got them I must have bought the wrong type of litter as they left several presents for me which I could smell before even walking in the door! Ewwww how can so much stink come out of such a tiny cute body!!
  2. well I'm going to have another go at getting these pics of my new kitties on. I think they're both boys so I quite lile Milo and Sebastian (Sebby for short) However Phil wants Kili and Fili (names of the Hobbits - geek!)
  3. Well I went up to a book fair today to try and re-ignite my mojo - I cycled up so could only buy what I could fit in my backpack - I did ask my friend to bring his bag but he conveniently forgot. Anyway I bought the following ranging from cheapest at 30p to priciest at £1. The Fahrenheit Twins by Michael Faber Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks An Equal Music Vikram Seth The Green Mile By Stephen King The Bookseller of Kabul The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy The Constant Gardener John le Carre
  4. I am going to keep my eye out for some of these books at the book fair today....cycling there though so will be limited in what I will carry! A suitable boy arrived in the post for me last week - wow its a big book! Can't wait to get stuck in though
  5. nice big streaming cup of tea! I have these huge mugs for tea you could fit a tin of soup in them - generally have two or three cups in the morning yum!
  6. Hi guys just got back from Glasgow yesterday and have totally lost the plot with my reading..tried and failed to finish Neverwhere but it's just not for me - I just don't care enough about the characters to continue with it...just don't think its for me - Have also been picking up Wally Lamb's couldn't keep it to myself as it's full of short stories so easy to dip in and out of...am about 100 pages through Cider House Rules and then started reading Let The Right One In on the train! Arghh!! I need to just pick one so going to concentrate on Cider House Rules for now - seems like a bit of a slow start but enjoying the descriptions of abortion back in the day.
  7. hi what is the relation of cross stitch to outlander? What it turned into a series? X
  8. November. Not happy like! What about you? X
  9. Ooo I have wanted to read The Day of the Trffids for a long long time - you'll have to let me know what it is like
  10. Hi Helen and welcome - I'm from the north east so not far from you! How was it turning 30? I have the big 3-0 coming up soon and am totally papping myself!
  11. I have read Shantaram it is by Gregory David Roberts - He apparantly wrote it in prison and had to re-write it three times. I did quite enjoy it although I got half way through and started reading something else as it was just dragging on a bit but then it picked up towards the end. The things that spoiled it for me though was the fact that I'd read it wasn't a true account and some of it was fabricated for the sake of entertainment. Not sure how true this is but still a decent read.
  12. I bought this for my dad for his birthday - it is definitely his kind of book but I have to admit I liked the sound of it too and looking fo4ward to him finishing it so he can pass it on!
  13. 150 pages through neverwhere and have also picked up Wally Lamb's Couldn't Keep it to Myself which is a collection of stories written in a writing group by women in York Correctional facility in Connecticut. The women write about thier lives and their story of how they became incarcerated. It will be good to dip in and out of I think.
  14. Yes I was about to start His Dark Materials but got swayed with this one. Got a fairly quiet shift on my part time job this evening so plan to get stuck in x
  15. I love anything that is set in India - I love Rohinton Mistry books - A Fine Balance is one of my all time favourites and although it was a couple of years ago I read it, I still think about it from time to time and can resurrect the characters in my mind so vividly - I've never been one to read a book again unless it has been many years since I first read it, however I will definitely pick up a Fine Balance again soon, I can't praise it enough.
  16. I loved reading I Am Legend - I thought it was an excellent book - some changes in the film I have seen with Will Smith - didn;t realise there was an earlier film as well
  17. I am very ashamed to admit that after coming home last from a bottle and half of wine at my sisters I went on Amazon and went a bit crazy buying books...my amazon credit card took a bit of a bashing urrrghhh! Anyway I was in the mood to read some gory creepness and generally disturbing stuff so I purchased the following: The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (Agatha Christie Comic Strip) The Cannibal Within Mark Mirabello John Steinbeck's "Grapes of Wrath" Lee Cusick Lunar Park Bret Easton Ellis Helter Skelter: The True Story of the Manson Murders Curt Gentry, Vincent Bugliosi Exquisite Corpse Poppy Z. Brite How the Dead Live Will Self Ring Koji Suzuki, Spiral Koji Suzuki, A Suitable Boy Vikram Seth The Girl in a Swing Richard Adams
  18. My favorite film of all time has to be HG Wells' The Time Machine. The original of course!! The newer one with Samantha Mumba is absolutley awful! I watch this film every few months and it is always watched by me and my dad at Christmas every year. I love it to bits. Other top fav flicks include Labyrinth - also watched far too often Legend - def a childhood fav - a 15 year old tom cruise mmm! Beetlejuice - I went as beetlejuice to a fancy dress once Lord of the Ring - proper epicness National Velvet and International velvet - for the horseyness in me and Rebecca! Love this film and even named my own horse Maxim de Winter (Max for short!) Contact - if anyone hasn't seen this film watch it, it truely is amazing Sunshine and...the Silver Brumby - more a horsey childhood favorite but haven't seen in in yonks
  19. Well I am about 100 pages into Neverwhere and I just can't get into it. I'm a bit gutted as read so many good reviews. I'm thinking maybe it's just because it is my first proper fantasy book and perhaps I just need to go with the flow a bit instead of asking too many questions about this and that....however my mind as just been wondering off (probably something to do with the impending feline arrivals. I am going to persist with it though I usually give books at least 100 pages however this is a new genre for me so maybe need to give it more of a chance, I really want to love it though!
  20. Yes I do! And I do tend to not but the book if there are too many poor reviews on Amazon. I really need to stop doing this though as I am probably missing out on books that I may like if I hadn't taken other people's opinions as gospel. For Example I have had a look through that 1001 books to read before you die list and there are a few on there where the reviews aren't so hot on Amazon but everyone has their own opinion so once I get through my current TBR list I am going to go through this list and stray out my my comfort zone!
  21. Kylie do you have the updated 2010 list? I would be most grateful if you could email me! ta x
  22. Ooo I shall have a perusal when I finish work..at the risk of making my tbr pile even greater x
  23. We have a used book store called the Keelrow book shop near me. I love it theres about ten different rooms its like the tardis. They sell allsorts I could spend hours perusing around
  24. What is this list exactly and who produced it?! X
  25. Ten a month wow! I'm fitting in about one a week to ten days however that would be with reading at least an hour a night and a few hours over the weekend. It is hard fitting it in with work, house work, cooking dinners and fitting exercise in but I try not to put too much pressure on myself to gnt through my tbr list although I am still buying more books that I'm reading per month I can't resist!
