Dear all,
I'm on the hunt for a book I read as a teenager, loved and have not seen again for a decade. It has been playing on my mind, but I cannot remember author, title, or anything useful! Here's what I can remember:
It is a thriller/murder mystery, set mainly in Bern, Switzerland
The opening sequence was set in a boarding school, where a young man hanged himself
The lead character's Swiss police friend was nicknamed 'The Bear'
The version I had had a red and black cover of two pages, the front part cut away and when moved showed a picture of someone hanging
One of the gruesome murders involved a torso being found on a large chess board (sorry to be so graphic)
There is mention of the Swiss men who had done compulsory service all had guns and ammo stored in their kitchen
I know this is a random collection of info, but I would be so grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction!
Many thanks
