I keep forgetting to look at their monthly sales. I shall check it out later!
-
I started The Ice Twins....have to say I'm not a fan of the way it's written (or the main character) but I shall persevere.
-
I'm very near the end of Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates. It's a very good read but a bit emotionally exhausting. I'll finish that tonight, then I'll move on to The Ice Twins.
-
I always list what I'm reading on my first page and also under my piccie. 'Life after Life' is what I have abandoned at the moment.
I didn't like Life After Life either. I can't remember if I gave up or skimmed through to the end, but either way I didn't read it properly. Everyone raved about it, but I didn't like it at all.

Hi Julie. Welcome back! Yes, reading some good ones this year.
-
There weren't any copies left!
Oh well, I still have my 5 other books from the library to see me through.
-
Awesome!!
I'm so pleased you liked it so much!
You are in for such a great treat with the book series!!
I'm popping to the library today and will check if the next book is available.
Mind you, I have enough books to read at the moment.....
I finished Go Set A Watchman last night. Undecided about what I think, but it was a easy enough read. Not as moving as To Kill A Mockingbird.
Now I've started Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates this morning.
-
I will be reading it shortly (borrowed it from the library), so I wonder what I will make of it.
-
Yesterday I finished reading Me Before You by JoJo Moyles. I enjoyed it, but there were some really irritating parts which felt poorly written and poorly thought out in order to bring about a situation Moyles wanted to portray. It had a realistic and believable ending though which really redeemed anything that raised my eyebrow prior to it. Not gonna bother with the sequel.
Oh, shame you didn't enjoy it as much as some other people have. I loved it, and was very surprised that I did because I thought it would be chick-lit. I haven't read the sequel but it is on my wishlist.
I loved Thirteenth Tale too, Kylie. Now you have two people waiting on you with bated breath, Bobbly!
Oh no! No pressure then!
I finished off listening to A Trail Through Time by Jodi Taylor today, which is the fourth book in the Chronicles of St. Mary's series, so just have the fifth book to listen to before book six is released next week!
I've only read the first book. I loved it, but for some reason (too many other books in the way, probably) haven't got around to reading the others.
I'm about halfway through Go Set A Watchman. I'm enjoying it, but struggling a bit to see where the story will go. It's also much shorter than I thought it would be. I hope to finish it by Saturday so I can drop it off at the library.
-
Sorry, I should know better, having a TBR of a similar size.
-
I also loved The Thirteenth Tale, and I recently bought Bellman & Black. I hope it's as good as TTT!
I will let you know; I'll be reading it fairly soon as it's a library book.
Ooh, I really enjoyed Darkly Dreaming Dexter and Go Set a Watchman, so I'll be keen to read your thoughts on them. I've had Revolutionary Road on my TBR pile for years. Maybe if you enjoy it, it will inspire me to bump it up the pile (no pressure though!
)
Dexter was excellent! I look forward to reading the next one....I loved his dark sarcastic sense of humour.
I'm in the early stages of Go Set A Watchman, and it's ok so far. It's been years since I read To Kill A Mockingbird, so I can't remember some of the characters mentioned, but they only seem to be mentioned in passing so I don't think I'm missing out on anything.
I read the synopsis of Revolutionary Road last night and it seems like the kind of book I'll enjoy, which is why I've bumped it up my TBR pile. It may be a bit dated, but the premise sounds excellent.
-
It's mostly that I find the writing doesn't flow (to my way of reading), and often phrases and sentences aren't as easy for me to grasp on a first read.
Reading classics tends to really slow my reading down, as I feel like I have to really focus. Having said that, the one classic that I enjoyed was Dracula. I didn't have many/any problems with it, and loved the story.
-
Nearly finished Darkly Dreaming Dexter. I think I will finish it tonight. Then I will start Go Set A Watchman by Harper Lee, which is a library book. I figure I better read it quick-smart because it someone reserves it I won't be able to renew it. After that I think I will start Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates, which I've had on my Kindle since 2014, and sounds like something I'd enjoy.
-
Thanks! I really look forward to your thoughts on it, Alexi.
I hope you are one of those who enjoy it.
-
I have this one on my TBR pile, but unfortunately mine is the abridged version (which I didn't realise when I bought it). I might spring for the unabridged Kindle version as it's very cheap. Sounds like a good read, but I'm hesitant as I don't get on very well with classics.
-
Gorgeous, but slowly clouding over. At least I got a load of washing out on the line.
-
I think you'll know pretty quick whether you'll enjoy it or not. I hope you do enjoy it when you get to it.
-
I've only read Pandora's Star by Peter F Hamilton. I loved it, but it does take a lot of time and concentration to read, which is what has put me off reading his other books. I know I will get around to them at some point, but I need to be in the mood for them.
-
I've given up on Bleeding Edge. I just don't get his writing style...it's too disjointed and I struggle to understand what he is saying.
-
i really like Maggie O'Farrell. Can anyone recommend another author like her? Really good characters and a strong emotional content?
I really like Maggie O'Farrell as well. Do you know she has a new book coming out in May?
As for authors like her....I'm not sure as she is so unique! Maybe Kate Morton or Diane Setterfield?

A giant crumpet slathered and drowning in brittany butter with sea salt. It was lush!

Just watched episode 22 of the seventh season of The Office. I've seen it before, so I wasn't looking forward to it... It's so sad. It's really funny, but it gets really sad in the end. I knew what to expect but I still wept like a little girl
Oh well, the hard part's over and I can move on to the rest of the show!
What happened in this episode, Frankie? I can't remember.
I finished watching Friends last night. I felt quite sad when it was over, which is silly considering the series ended over 10 years ago.
I've now moved on to The Big Bang Theory which is on Netflix.
-
Given up on Bleeding Edge by Thomas Pynchon. His writing style is not for me. Frustrating....this is the first book I've given up on this year, and stupidly I'm feeling guilty over it!
I've started Darkly Dreaming Dexter which is more up my alley. Loving the dark humour. It makes me want to watch the TV series again.

Interesting! Heart of Darkness is vaguely on my wishlist. It's such a well known book, but I don't think I have found anyone who has actually enjoyed it!
