I was enjoying Leave Me by Gayle Foreman, but I found out my dog- soul mate- has cancer and I've been too upset to continue. It's been quite the week.
Oh no, so sorry to hear that.
My lab has just had a lump removed, which thankfully turned out to be harmless, so I can understand the worry and stress. What is the prognosis.....are there treatment options available?
In book news, I am two thirds through The Last Letter From Your Lover by Jojo Moyes. Then it's back to David Copperfield.

I enjoyed The Secret Life of Bees when I read it last year.
Is this your first read of Dracula? I read it last year, and enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. I found it very easy to read, considering I usually struggle a bit with the classics.
-
I'm still reading David Copperfield. I'm about 30% through...good so far. I like his great-aunt!!
-
I've put David Copperfield to one side to read The Heart Goes Last by Margaret Atwood. I'll most likely finish it tonight....it's been a very likeable read.

I am currently reading ~ 'Faceless' by Alyssa B. Sheinmel (paperback) & 'The Goldfinch' by Donna Tartt (kindle edition)
How are you finding The Goldfinch? I really liked it when I read it last year.
I finished The Long Way To A Small, Angry Planet - loved it, and can't wait to read the sequel (but I'm going to wait until the price comes down a bit).
I'm now reading David Copperfield by Charles Dickens. I've had it on my Kindle since 2011, so it's high time I gave it a go. So far I'm enjoying it, though it is very, very wordy! I'm not finding it too difficult to read though, which is a problem I sometimes have with classics. Apparently it will take me 18hrs and 36 minutes to finish it.

I tried to read this in Dutch about ten years ago and gave up around the time Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin met Tom Bombadil.
This happened to me (except for reading in Dutch!)...I found it such a struggle to read. However, I love the movies, and have the extended editions on BluRay.
I know it's a favourite book for many people, but it just doesn't do it for me.

I like the sound of Time and Again, so I've added it to my wishlist.

I hope you enjoy it
!
I am! I was a bit worried that a lot of it would go over my head, but it's very easy to understand, and not overloaded with too many characters. I'm about halfway through it.
I have just finished The Giver by Lois Lowry, which I really enjoyed. Lowry packs so much into 180 pages I was left feeling like I'd read something longer, but surprised at how quickly I'd read it! Now starting Watership Down. Never read it in my youth, so not sure whether I'm the target audience now, but intrigued to see!
I read The Giver last year (or maybe the year before....time goes so fast these days!) and really enjoyed it. Like you say, there was so much packed into a reasonably short book.
I read Watership Down a few years ago, after it was referenced in The Stand. I liked it a lot and recently bought it on Kindle so I can re-read it at some point. I hope you like it!

The sofa or in bed.

I finished A Life In Death: Memoirs of a Cotswold Funeral Director by James Baker, and also finished Follow You Home by Mark Edwards. The former was very good, the latter was pretty forgettable.
Now I'll be making a start on The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers.
-
Nevermind.....at least it's one off my TBR pile!
-
^ Yep, I don't think I would have been able to read it if I'd been home alone.
-
One I've read very recently - Dark Matter by Michelle Paver. Definitely spooky.
-
No, but I loved The Grapes of Wrath. Have you read any other Steinbeck?
-
The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet is only £3.99 on Kindle, so I have just bought it.

Snowdrops - AD Miller
Nicholas is a British lawyer, who has been working in Moscow for a few years. One day on the subway he helps a woman, Masha, from being mugged and over the next few months gets deeply involved in her life and that of her friends.
I am quite puzzled over the fuss made about this book. It was short listed for the Man Booker Prize, but I honestly don't see why. It is a very ordinary, pedestrian novel in which literally very little happens. There is no room for emotional impact or a moving story arc....believe me, I am not exaggerating when I say that very little happens.
The story is told from Nicholas' point of view, and he is not the most exciting of characters. We don't get to hear a great deal about the background of the other characters either, so along with a non existant story line, there isn't much left to appreciate.
The title, 'snowdrops' refers to the Russian term for bodies which are uncovered when the snow beings to thaw. Because of this, I thought the book would be about a serial killer, or some kind of detective story, but that is not the case. There really is no significance of the term 'snowdrops' as the title or within the novel.
Having said all that, it's not a bad novel....I just don't think it's worthy of all the praise and attention it has received.

I'm nearly finished with Wonder by RJ Palacio. Very good read.
-
For the books on my Kindle (Paperwhite), if I move them to a collection, I don't see them on the home screen anymore.
I don't remember having to change any settings either, so it's a bit strange.
-
Hey, I'm sure I saw that at my local library last week. It was marked as a new item, but I didn't borrow it because I wanted to catch up on Kindle books.
-
I finished Snowdrops by AD Miller. A bit meh....not sure why it was shortlisted for the Man Booker prize. It was extremely ordinary.
-
Thanks for the heads up, Madeleine.
-
Thanks, pontalba. Yeah, another example.

Woman At Point Zero sounds very interesting. I have added it to my wishlist.

I just finished this, and really enjoyed it. Like others have said, it's very atmospheric, and you really get the feeling of the darkness and isolation. I'd recommend it, for sure.

You enjoyed The Rook a lot more than I did. I ended up giving up on it. I didn't like the lengthy notes left for Myfanway; I know they were there for a reason, but they just went on too long and took me out of the story.
