  1. I loved The Book Thief. Such a wonderful, original story.
  2. Aww, thanks frankie.
  3. A tub of cottage cheese, mixed with salt, pepper and curry powder. It was a bit....strong.
  4. My Kindle had a software update last night. The locations are now gone, and apparently are replaced by real page numbers (where possible). Pretty good, I think, as I never could make sense of the locations. There are a few other changes as well. When you get to the end of a book, you can rate it, get recommendations, and a listing of other books by the same author. I like updates.
  5. Ice Station - Matthew Reilly This one is a real guilty pleasure, and not the first time I have read it. The writing is extremely poor and so unoriginal; you get the impression it was written by a 13 year old. However....it was an easy read, which is exactly what I needed. The basic story is that some scientists in a research station in Antarctica discover what appears to be a spaceship buried deep in the ice. While they are exploring the area, something attacks and kills them. A distress call goes out, and several military groups (American and French) converge on the ice station to stake their claim. They clash, of course, and so begins the battle for survival. It's fast paced, twisty and turny, and cheesy as hell. Still, it was fun. 3/5
  6. Too true, chesilbeach. There wouldn't be a point in having a forum if everyone thought the same.
  7. Finished Ice Station, and started The Rembrandt Secret.
  8. I did, which is why I bought the book.
  9. The Rembrandt Secret - Alex Connor. This sounds like a great read, have just bought the Kindle version.
  10. They all sound quite good. Room is the only one I have read on that list.
  11. I'm still reading Ice Station by Matthew Reilly. It's such a poorly written book, but it moves at a mile-a-minute, and so is quite easy and entertaining to read. It's a guilty pleasure.
  12. Thanks! They weren't neat to begin with. It took a while to sort them.
  13. Finished The Eyre Affair. I'm struggling with what to read next, so I'm going with something fast paced, easy and entertaining: Ice Station by Matthew Reilly.
  14. The Eyre Affair - Jasper Fforde I'm cringing a bit as I write this, as I know this series is very popular here, but I didn't really enjoy it. I found it a bit too quirky, and trying to be too clever. It made me think of the Austin Powers films. Maybe it's because I have never read Jane Eyre, and am not a huge fan of the classics or Shakespeare, so alot of the references probably went over my head. I just couldn't get into the story. I won't completely give up on the series, but I think it will be a while before I pick up the next book. 2/5
  15. I really enjoy looking at: Oddee Passive-Aggressive Notes Failbook
  16. Ani DiFranco - Pulse
  17. Thanks, pickle.
  18. Here is our bookcases. Sorry for the funny angle of the pic, but there's not enough space to take it face-on.
  19. Doritos. Not very healthy.
  20. Nineteen Minutes - Jodi Picoult. This is the second Picoult book I have read, the first being My Sister's Keeper. I have also given up on a few as well, so I didn't have particularly high hopes for this one. As it turns out, I thought it was fantastic, though that's probably not the right word to use for something so tragic. Briefly, the book is about a bullied high school student named Peter Houghton, who shoots up his school. The story then jumps between various characters, and also back to the events leading up to the shooting, and the aftermath. I thought it was such a powerful book, and quite draining to read. You end up of course, having sympathy for the victims, but also sympathy for Peter and what he has gone through. 5/5
  21. Finished Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult last night. Loved it, but it left me feeling drained. I've now started The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde after reading numerous positive comments on here. Had no idea it was set in the future; for some reason I'd thought it was a chick-lit type book.
  22. Strawberry Ribena
  23. ^ That's a shame, because the premise sounds really interesting.
