Ahhh!! please help!!
I've been searching for days and I can't find it, but thisis what I remember. Ok here goes.
Set in Vietnam early 1900s (during french occupation), a vietnamese boy finds his village sacked by a gang of opium smugglers. To survive he joins then and gradually through his strong ambition for revenge, he works his way to a position of power, kills the boss and takes over mafia organisation in Siagon. He uses his power to marry a middle class (but very beautiful) french girl and has a daughter. This is where the story changes main character.
Now the daugther is brought out in high society but cannot reconsile her up bringing (should she be vietnamese and take power or french and lead a calm simple life). She doesnt get to make the choice as her family home is destroyed killing her family. She is rescued by a servant who "looks after" her.... shes young and thinks she is in love... the vietnam war breaks out and she's caught in the middle but is rescued by her north vietnamese cousin (she falls in love with him)... she eventually chooses her vietnamese heritage and takes over the family business trafficing drugs...
Thats the best I can do (it ws 10 years or so ago) can anyone help me?
