  1. First 20 I can think of: Nikita (my number 1) Leon Infernal Affairs Trilogy Akira Moon Warriors A Chinese Ghost Story Heat One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest While the Cat’s Away Dog Day Afternoon Young And Dangerous The Keys To The House Betty Blue Dream Life Of Angels Carrie The Nightshift Belleville Rendez-vous Withnail And I 48 Hours Ghost
  2. I tend to stop at page numbers, so for instance I'll read specifically 10, 20 or 30 etc. pages (depending on the book) and then stop.
  3. Very little - most of the books I read in 2010 where from the library and one came from the second-hand shop for 2 quid! To buy books at full price is a bit of a luxury at the moment...
  4. I'm a bit of a Francophile...and a beautiful life is what I'm inspiring to have...
  5. Read some of Jeffery Eugenides' The Virgin Suicides today but only managed 4 lousy pages as I was reading it on the tube. Hopefully will read much more tonight.
  6. Thanks Yeah I was watching the documentary on BBC4 not long ago and I've been trying to hunt it down at the library, but it's always being loaned out non-stop! I'll have to buy a copy as it seems to be an enduring classic to keep and read over and over anyway
  7. Thanks! Hmmm...well the Delta of Venus wasn't really what I was expecting. I do like to read a bit of erotica now and then, as long as it's tasteful, but at the same time warm, sexy and sensual. While Anais wasn't vulgar, I did think her tone was a little cold throughout and there were a couple of themes I found pretty disturbing to be honest, which kind of spoilt it (for me anyway). If you've read it, you'll know which ones I mean heheh . Anywhoo, those themes where the ones that stayed in my mind after I finished the book which is a shame, but maybe that's just me being oversensitve!
  8. Hehe I definitely want to see the film, but I always like to read the books first before the adaptations for some reason.
  9. Because I've only just picked up reading again this year, I've only managed to properly document since July, so here goes... Read and to be read: The Catcher in the Rye - J.D. Salinger (05/07/10 - 08/07/10) Vibrator - Mari Akasaka (12/07/10 - 18/07/10) The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald (19/07/10 - 25/07/10) Manon Lescaut - Abbé Prévost (26/07/10 – 01/08/10) Delta Of Venus - Anais Nin (02/08/10 – 08/08/10) Fear And Trembling - Amélie Nothomb (09/08/10 – 11/08/10) In The Miso Soup - Ryu Murakami (11/08/10 – 16/08/10) Dream Story - Arthur Schnitzler (18/08/10 – 22/08/10) The Dancing Girl Of Izu - Yasunari Kawabata (23/08/10 - 29/08/10) Black Girl In Paris – Shay Youngblood (30/08/10 - 05/09/10) Billy Liar - Keith Waterhouse (06/09/10 - 12/09/10) And Now You Can Go - Vendela Vida (13/09/10 - 23/09/10) The Virgin Suicides - Jeffrey Eugenides (24/09/10 - 24/10/10) To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee (25/10/10 - 30/11/10) The Blue Room - Georges Simenon (13/12/10 - 31/12/10!) EDIT: The books listed below were also originally included in my 2010 reading list but I didn't manage to read them, so they will be rolled over onto my 2011 list! A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary For Lovers - Xiaolu Guo South of the Border, West of the Sun - Murakami Haruki The White Man In The Tree - Mark Kurlansky At Home With Miss Vanessa - E.A Markham I Heart New York - Lindsay Kelk

    Hi!

Hello fellow readers! My name is Sian and I'm from London. I don't really have a favourite genre of book as such, but I like to read books from authors from all over the world, getting insights into other cultures and customs etc. But basically just a good story whether it's from Tokyo, Tennessee, Tipperary or my own back yard! Well I've been lagging in my reading for a while now and finding this forum - and especially looking through all the reading lists/blogs - has really been inspiring to me. Looking forward to convos and hearing opinions about books with everyone! (Thank goodness I found this place! )
