  1. Read somewhere this week that Stephen Hawking, famous Scientist; sorry, 'Applied Mathematician & Theoretical Physicist' to be correct, is strongly advising against humans seeking out extra terrestrial life forms. Leave well alone & remain inconspicuous was his advice! Jim
  2. In USA politics, basically, Republican's are "Tory's" & Democrat's are "Labour" ("ish", mid-left is more correct I believe). Jim
  3. Read the 1st 30 pages of Exit Music; my 1st Ian Rankin / Rebus novel; cant help but think of Ken Stott & Claire Price; (Rebus & Siobhan); in the tv series & how good they were. Jim
  4. Thanks for the encouragement; I have renewed it from the library & will probably commence sometime mid - end of may; just need a complete change now; Rankin, Pratchett or Niffenegger? Decisions; decisions! Jim
  5. Struggled to the end of 'The Subtle Knife', found it hard going. Need a rest before tackling 'The Amber Spyglass'. Jim
  6. Certain parts of the NHS; (No Hope if you're Sick); 'Wrightington Hospital in particular whom it seems have a policy that each time you phone it is mandatory for it to ring at least 30 times before it's answered, main reception included! Jim

  11. Commencing part two of Northern Lights. Could this trilogy be as good as the Harry Potter books? May well be! Jim.
  12. 80 pages into 'Northern Lights'. Just ending chapter 4. Moving along nicely. Jim

  14. Just finished '1984'. Stunned / staggered at the parrallels I can draw as I genuinely work for a 'control freak' & 'mental bully'. Jim
  15. 70 pages into '1984'. Blimey; I think I work for 'The Party';) Can certainly picture my boss being top man at Big Brother! Jim
  16. Wow; shell shocked!:blush: 5 days to read, (thats lighting quick for me). Amusing too. Will definitely read more by this author but maybe not just yet! Really liked the characters. Thanks for the recommendation.

  17. Just finished Flesh House by Stuart MacBride. Blimey; cracking read I thought; 5 days it took me; that's light speed for me! Bit shell shocked I think:blush: Great story, great characters and surprisingly amusing in parts. Jim

  19. Just finished Beneath The Bleeding by Val MacDermid; that's about my fifth of hers & time for a change. Was OK; kept me in there; just. About to start Flesh House, my 1st Stuart MacBride novel. Seems a well recommended author. Here goes... Jim

  23. I'm also listening to 'The Cutting Room', converted to mp3; narrated superbly by Robert Carlyle. Well worth getting hold of. Jim.
