  1. Thanks Tim That's a hell of a lot of road to cover. We were, at one stage, thinking of driving from Calgary to Vancouver between the two gigs, but we thought it would be too much to do in a day - it's a 12+ hour drive. If there'd been a bit more time we would've done it. Then I met a guy on the plane on the way home who had done it, and been to both gigs Nope, the first book was such dreadful, derivative crap, I vowed never to go near them again Must be the shades I've been called worse
  2. Not reading your review until I've read the book
  3. Blimey. They've actually managed to make this look good. I'm now vaguely interested . . .
  4. So Peter Dinklage is a Rush fan, he appears in the Roll the Bones rap video during the concert every night, and now I find out that his brother played the violin part when they performed Losing It in New York. It's a Tyrion takeover!
  5. You really do need to read something other than fantasy If I had one I probably would
  6. Yeah, it's real. There were two of them, they were having a play fight Strange how most of the photos seem to be of trees and mountains, though Yes, I called it 'Mike' I dread to think what you were expecting Thanks! It's all over now, though, and I'm back home I just wish I'd realised, all the time in Calgary I had the camera on the VGA setting instead of 5MP Waiting for Mike to get back (he went on to Tokyo and now he's in Dubai) as he took loads of videos, too - including some at the Rush shows
  7. So, given that logic, the story would've dragged on indefinitely? Noooooo.
  8. I think so The receipt says one of the items is temporarily out of stock, although there's no mention of due dates or anything like that
  9. I've just got The Empty Throne to read to be up to date (until later this year, anyway). I love it - great series!
  10. I thought it would have been a cop out for it to be any other way.
  11. Glad you enjoyed it, bobs - looking forward to the review!
  12. Still Calgary: Simples! The Saddledome, where we saw Rush Standing on the glass floor of the Calgary Tower Vancouver: The city seen from Stanley Park Capilano suspension bridge. Would've been fine but for the idiot tourists rocking it from side to side (not me, of course! ) The Sky Ride up Grouse Mountain Me at the top of Grouse Mountain. You'd be able to see Vancouver in the distance if my big fat head wasn't in the way This grizzly was trying to sneak up on me by going underwater. Fortunately I was wise to its tricksy ways The Olympic cauldron from Vancouver's 2010 Winter Games The Rogers Arena, on the right, where we saw Rush. Photo taken on the seaplane tour of the city. One Direction were playing the stadium next door on the same night Rush played. I think we got the better part of that deal
  13. Um, yeah, of course I was holding a book! It was this one More photos . . . Me and John. I always thought he was a bit wooden Calgary: When we went to the rodeo. I didn't like it (poor horses and steers ) but I guess we had to say we went to the Calgary Stampede. First view of the Rockies! Some bloke got his big head in the way of this photo: The name of this lake caused much amusement: Woman about to be eaten by sneaky dinosaur . . .
  14. Goosebumps, reliving that
  15. Saw Terminator Genisys whilst in Calgary. Surprisingly good! A proper sequel to the first two films.
  16. From Friday night - really never in a million years thought I'd see them play this live . . . The dancer slows her frantic pace In pain and desperation, Her aching limbs and downcast face Aglow with perspiration Stiff as wire, her lungs on fire, With just the briefest pause — Then flooding through her memory, The echoes of old applause And she limps across the floor And closes her bedroom door… The writer stares with glassy eyes — Defies the empty page, His beard is white, his face is lined And streaked with tears of rage Thirty years ago, how the words would flow With passion and precision, But now his mind is dark and dulled By sickness and indecision And he stares out the kitchen door Where the sun will rise no more… Some are born to move the world — To live their fantasies But most of us just dream about The things we’d like to be Sadder still to watch it die Than never to have known it For you — the blind who once could see — The bell tolls for thee…
  17. Thanks all One of my favourite moments from the gigs - a few celebrity Rush fans doing the Roll the Bones rap
  18. They played Losing It So long guys, Thank you for the music.
  19. Oh, almost forgot - they were filming an episode of The Flash right next to the hotel yesterday - only my favourite tv show this year. I couldn't believe it! I went and watched for about half an hour. Saw Grant Gustin and waved, then Jesse L. Martin nearly knocked me over running to get in a car Unfortunately the security people wouldn't let anyone take photos
  20. Hello from Vancouver!*waves* Just had breakfast and sitting here using the hotel's Samsung tablet (one in every room). Hee! The show in Calgary on Wednesday was incredible - so many songs I've never seen them play live before: Jacob's Ladder, Hemispheres, Cygnus X-1, Lakeside Park, What You're Doing, more of 2112 than I've seen too. Tonight is likely to be the last time I ever get to see them. It's going to be quite emotional I think - I already shed a tear or two at the Calgary show during Subdivisions and The Spirit of Radio ... and maybe Xanadu too If they play Losing It I will go completely A Farewell to Kings indeed
  21. Off to Calgary and Vancouver See you all in a couple of weeks
