you're right! and although I thought David Tennant was the best Dr Who I'd be more than glad to relegate him to number two in favour of Murphy! its a deal!

Stephanie, totally agree, and I'm not keen on the pics of him with longer hair, but the smart Dr. look and also as Fischer in Inception really does it for me. Now that I think of it, I must watch 28 days later again soon.....

OK, so not at all weird, but I am besotted with Cillian Murphy the the moment. I suppose the only weird thing is that I like him most as Dr Crane(aka The Scarecrow) in Batman Begins. There's something about a genius evil mind with a stunning face that's quite irresistable!! sigh!!! oh yeah, and don't get me started on the glasses, LOVE a man in glasses!

i picked up Gateway in waterstones the other day but was in a bit of an undecided mood so I didnt buy it. I will add it to my to read list! thanks

unfortunately, i dont have the faith that any continuity of using such a character will be written in to the story in an entertaining way. and i think thats one of the major problems, i havent really liked any of the storylines. i've liked the beginnings, and felt they had potential but they haven't ended cleverly enough for me.

i liked yesterday's Who more than the other episodes this series, but i was a little dissapointed with the dream lord turning out to be the The Doctor's self lothing. it was an excellent opportunity to meet a new enemy that could then pop up later on in the series (which i'm sure he will) but it would have been better if we didnt find out who the dream lord was. The psychic pollen was a bit of a cop out and the episode could have ended better, with more mystery. I, like many others am having a bit of a problem with Matt's Doctor. I'll admit, I am a 10 lover, and Tennant will always be my Doctor, but I was really hoping to love 11 as well. After alot of consideration, i think the problem is that Matt doesnt seem to believe he is the Doctor in the same way as others have. In order for me to be completely convinced that I am watching a time lord, the actor has to be completely immersed in character, like Tennant was. Hopefully, it will get better, i was a bit more convinced of Matt's character yesterday than previous episodes. Still cant stand Amy though.

Ah yes, Lord Flash. Classic. "Flash, where have you been?" "Where haven't I been...woof!" Do you like him more as Elizabethan Flash or WW1 Flash? I prefer WW1 Flash simply for the uniform!

aw, thanks i dont expect everyone to like this film of course, i just knew it wasnt widely released and wanted to share. i'm pleased so many of you liked it.

so glad you liked it too you're totally right, not entirely original and a dystopian future has been written many times, i just felt this had something about it. Christian Bale was excellent and perfectly cast. It was more thoughtfull than I had expected. Compared to The Matrix I found it more important as well, it has a wonderful message. The action is slick and allows the film to be enjoyed for the action as well as the deeper meaning. It moved kind of slow, but i was totally absorbed. One of the parts that I loved the most was when he rips off the film covering his window. So simple and quick and yet it covered so much of the film's message in one small scene. I might have to watch it again tonight with my husband as he was asleep on the sofa when I saw it!

Last weekend, about midnight I was flicking channels and happened to catch the beginning of this amazing film. I literally couldn't go to bed until I had watched it all! So rarely do I see a film that has me thinking about it the next day. Not wishing to post spoilers to those of you who havent seen it, so I wont, only to say it is an intelligent sci-fi and action film, set in the near future after world war three. This film was only released in a few cinemas back in 2002, so I'm sure there are many people who haven't even heard of it (like myself) and I just wanted to suggest it for viewing. I could seriously gush about Equilibrium, but I dont want to spoil the plot. I would just say, I seriously recommend this film.

oh yes, and the Chronicles of Narnia of course! The Magicians Nephew was always my favourite. I loved the gold and green rings being able to take you to different worlds.

thinking about it, the first sci-fi/horror type book I read was a children's book. It was called Grinny written by Nicholas Fisk. I was probably about 7. although it was a children's book, the story was quite well written and was sci-fi. and was reasonably scary. Its written from the viewpoint of a young boy, who one day finds that an old lady has turned up at his house. at first, no-one knows who she is, but she says 'you remember me, dont you' and this seems to entrance the adults who all of a sudden remember she is a long lost aunt. Of course she isnt, actually she's an alien scoping the earth for her mothership waiting for the go-ahead to invade. for a child, the premise was quite scary and engaging, and of course, the adults are clueless and its up to the children to sort it all out, but not in a childish way. It was probably this book that introduced me to sci-fi. I also read the Hobbit when I was about the same age.

You're totally allowed to crush on Doctor Who. I have a permanent crush on The Doctor regardless of who's playing him!!

i'm so glad someone knows what i'm talking about! no-one's ever agreed with me before about Ford He does has an appealing face in a really quirky way. He'd be the most rubbish boyfriend though, always disappearing and being late and unpredictable but you know you'd have loads of fun!

I like David Dixon as Ford Prefect in the BBC series version of The Hitchikers Guide To The Galaxy. I dont think its his looks so much as the zany personality and excellently mismatched clothes. Love the blazer! he's also got lovely curly, zany hair!

well, you can say what you like about Russell T Davis, but he knew how to produce. I think the production/direction for 11 is the real problem. The episodes are strangely paced making it really difficult to get into. The other thing I have a massive problem with was Matt's acting in relation to the Daleks. bear in mind this is his deadliest foe, but when Tennant or Ecclestone came up against them, there was a wonderful mixture of hatred, anger, disgust and absolute fear. I just didnt get that strength of emotion from Matt. It was all a bit 2 dimensional for me. But my one true problem with 11 is that I feel completely indifferent to him and Amy. Being a major 10 fan, i knew I wouldnt take to 11t immediately, but I was really looking forward to the new series. I was prepared to hate 11 initially, or love him, but I'm just not feeling anything, which is really worrying. The success of any Doctor isnt just about who portrays him, but also about the whole production team. The writers write differently depending on who is The Doctor. if they dont give the right material to the right man, it will fall flat.

Yeah, there used to be a dial thing which changed the rate of changing, but I don't think they have them any more because of people twiddling them all the time!

today I had to go to the bank because after several attempts to phone them, i couldn't get through. So I had to go in my lunch break which in itself is bad enough because I knew I wouldn't get any food. So I go in, and i wait 30 minutes for one person to be served!! then I wait another 30 minutes for the rest of the queue to be served. So I get to the counter and the horribly smarmy woman tells me that they don't process anything in-branch any more and that I would have to phone. Banks are SO rubbish nowadays. Anyone recommend a decent bank where you can actually talk to a person face to face?

not sure if I've posted this already, and a bit long-winded, but bear with me! One thing that really annoys me is.. When you're at a pelican crossing and have pushed the button, someone walks up to the other side and pushes it as well, like as if I'd be standing there waiting if I hadn't pushed it, right? But that's only half of it, the other day I walked up to a crossing, and seeing a person on the other side, I didn't push my button because I didn't want to be one of those annoying people who pushes the button for no reason. Imagine my annoyance when after waiting for a good couple of minutes, I noticed that they hadn't pushed the button their side!! and also people continually push the button as if its going to make the lights change quicker!! Grrrrrr!!

I am kind of the same thinking as you. I didnt like Amy Pond. she didnt have the facination and sense of adventure that Rose & Martha had upon meeting The Doctor. Being a die-hard 10 fan, I knew that i wouldnt immediately take to 11, but the real problem for me was that I didnt hate Matt Smith, nor did I love him. Total indifference to 11 was not what I was expecting. Even though i LOVE David Tennant's Doctor, i was excited to see a new Doctor, as 10 had become sad and melancholy. The other problem was the plot. Totally predictable. I knew it was Amelia Pond grown up straight away. I knew that the aliens meant that Earth, not the house the multiform was living in. There just werent any surprises, no twists that were always there when RTD was producing. All in all, just a bit bland really. Shame. Still, I will watch the series, hoping it will get better

hmm.. the black base is tricky. most are silver. Lavaworld (an American company) do black bases, but are sub-standard lamps. There was a design called 'jet' by Mathmos which is a cylindrical shape. these 'jets' do come with black bases, among other colours. was my first lamp actually. They sell alot on UK ebay. one day you'll see a lamp in a shop and it will be love at first sight!

I read for escapism. As a child, and a somewhat highly strung and introverted one at that, I always enjoyed the calm and solitude of reading. I never, ever read factual books. Of course I am interested in real life events, but what I want most from a book is to be transported far, far away. the further the better, be it in space or time or both. I was always destined to be a lover of sci-fi.
