  1. I'm a Kerrymaid but I live in Cork now, due to uni. Which I've graduated from but I didn't bother going home :D

Welcome to the forum, always nice to see new Irish people here

Thanks. I notice there is a good mix of nationalities on these forums which always makes debate more interesting :D

  2. Welcome to the forum, Michael!

Just out of interest, what part of Southern Ireland? I've got family in Kerry.

Thanks again, people. To answer your question, i am from just outside of Waterford. I know a few people at work who are from Kerry. It's a small country!

  3. I didn't think it was possible to surpass the book in terms of bleakness and affect, but i saw the movie of "The Road" last week and was blown away by how powerful it was. Relentlessly grim and hopeless, it's no date movie but in terms of acting, it deserves a few Oscars and in my opinion is even better than the esteemed book.

  4. Generally about 20 minutes or so. I usually have a quick browse of every shelf and scan the area to see if anything catches my attention and sometimes i buy a few books but more often i leave empty handed. Our local bookshop serves coffee and snacks etc to encourage you to sit and read books but i prefer a less noisy environment!

  5. For me i found the ending of The Stand fantastic and satisfying, something King isn't always able to deliver. The Stand grips you from the very first line and doesn't let go. I envisioned many possible endings to the book as i was reading it but i was happy with the actual ending.

Under the Dome, in my opinion, had a terrible ending. The book is still quite good when you consider the themes and plot but the reveal of the Dome itself was King's worst ending in years. :D

  6. This is my kind of thread! Just spent an hout reading some of the opinions on Stephen King here and i loved it. I am of course a huge fan and am currently reading Just After Sunset. I completed Under the Dome and The Stand recently, too. I would rate the former 7 out of 10 and the latter 10 out of 10.
