I'm glad you had a good-ish day. I found that the first year after my dad died, events that used to be celebrated were to be endured. I'd just try and power through it. It felt very strange, everyone knows that you're thinking about your dad, so they're being extra nice, not wanting to see you tear up at the very mention of him, but not wanting to ignore the fact that of course you miss them more today. You would have seen them today, they should be there, or at the very least there'd be a phone call and a card.

Horrid, painful stuff Janet. You're much braver than you know.

I'd say it gets better over time, but I don't think it does really. I just sort of encompassed it, and it hurt less.

That said one of the shrinkydinks who work next door to where I work is helping me with some research, and I think the next draft will be entirely different. I might start at the end and work backwards...maybe.

Scotland is probably my favourite place and I've spent a lot of time in the Highlands. Not been to Fife though, I tend to stick to the west. I was on Skye a couple of years ago. My Mum is in the throes of buying a small holding and in a couple of years when my sproggy has flown the nest, I'm selling up and joining them. No more nasty concrete for me. We're looking to buy near Kirkcudbright though....not what I think of as proper Scotland. Staffs is one of those places you go through to get somewhere more interesting. Still at least it isn't Stoke.

I did a PGCE. It's not that tough a course compared to your third year. Just be organised and look teacher-ish and take deep breaths when you feel edgy. You'll be fine x
