  1. I have Warriors in my collection. Great movie. Haven't seen any of those others. Others I would go for are: In The Company Of Men Rachel Getting Married Punchline
  2. Before I Die by Jenny Downham. I thought this was a marvellous book about a very difficult subject. 16 year old Tessa is dying of a terminal illness. She decides to make a list of 10 things she wants to experience before she gets too ill to do them, before she dies. That is the whole plot, basically. It is written very sensitively and as the book went on I got more and more impressed. My mum died of this same disease after a long illness, but she was 88. Sorry this review is a bit short. But it is one of those books that can throw up quite personal feelings which are hard to write about. I will be passing this book onto family members .
  3. Can't agree on this one...blasphemy!! Blade Runner is superb..Philip K Dick story... artistic vision of Syd Mead..the music..the concept of artificial humans and the issues raised ....for me a recent over rated piece of rubbish was the latest Planet Of The Apes effort...typical of the worst Hollywood films..just throw some big names in with a formula plot and a lot of CGI. They will still be talking about Blade Runner in 25 years time while films like this will be forgotten.
  4. I am looking forward to reading your thoughts on Pied Piper Chesil !
  5. These ones: The Weaker Vessel The Girl Who Could'nt Say No If Walls Could Talk The Book Of Human Skin The Sisters Brothers Think they were all from your blog....I have already bought The Weaker Vessel.
  6. Hi Bree great idea. Don't think anybody has ever reviewed baby books before. Has your little one done The Hungry Caterpiller ?
  7. Haha we know why she is called Ooshie. It is a really cute story.
  8. I watched two war films about WWII.. first was .Die Brucke (The Bridge). I watched in German with English subtitles. It was about 7 16 year old schoolchildren who are conscripted by the Nazis to defend a bridge in their village right at the end of the war. The war is already lost. They are so indoctrinated by Nazi propaganda they volunteer willingly even though one boy is only 15. Their teacher (Franka Potenta) tries to save them and stop the madness. They will all die trying to stop the allies crossing the bridge but it would change absolutely nothing even if they stayed at home safe. If you are a fan of war films you will be disappointed. Historical accuracy comes second in this film. But it is not really about that. It is about trying to save something good in a really bad situation. It was interesting. I did notice lots of cultural differences the Germans seem to shout at each other a lot. It must be a very loud country. The other film was Saints and Soldiers. 4 US Soldiers escape from a massacre of prisoners by German soldiers in the Battle Of The Bulge in December 1944. They are trying to survive and get back to their own lines. Their personalities come into conflict. The most messed up of them is Deakin, He is a Christian but a few days before accidentally killed some women and children and cannot forgive himself. He has not slept since and is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. And he is holding their only gun. It was a good film .
  9. Everybody knows I am male I think. See I am wearing a scarf in my avatar. Where is the battle though? I didn't know there was a conflict
  10. Is that true? Didn't know that. Jane Austen would be proud. Muggle not! I never knew. Thought you were a girl. But I have made this gender mistake several times on here.
  11. Dang. I know you are all gonna hate me. I don't have any excess weight. But, I have periods when I eat so much junk I am sure my liver must be working overtime if it is not already three quarters dead . But when the rest of your life is crap you just feel like you feel like you should be able to at least eat whatever you want don't you ?
  12. You eat candles? that's not good
  13. Hey Poppy that was so nice that you had a meet up with Chesilbeach. I had a meet up half planned with Bookjumper last year and I had a book present all ready but then she disappeared off the forum. Never mind.
  14. Hi Kidsmum I will have to put over two posts and they came out a bit blurry but maybe you can make out some titles....
  15. I went off Billy Conolly a bit after the Ken Bigley thing....
  16. I bet that was a shock. The only good thing about this situation is that the book will be as safe as the Lost Ark in that Government warehouse ., for she will never look at it or disturb it.
  17. OK I am in trouble already. My bookshelves are overflowing . I already donated some paperbacks to charity and traded in 8 DVDs ( and got 4 other ones I wanted). Here is the situation today: Some of the books are keepers but over half are TBR. I have a couple more on the way from Amazon. I need to make an effort to plough through these so I can get rid of them. Apologies for the terrible photo.
  18. I am totally in tune with you chesil about the Professor and the Lord Lieutenant! I am on Team Chesil.
  19. I just got back from watching Harry Pot I mean Woman In Black. I was very, very disappointed. It's like they dumbed it down and put it in the standard Hollywood liquidiser and it came out all bland and tasteless. It is nothing like the book and nowhere near as spooky as the TV adapation from several years back. All the elements in that production that made the house and ghost seem so terrifying are missing in this lame effort. Forgetting the story and rating it as a stand alone film, I would not rate it as good a ghost story as The Others or Sixth Sense. I am sorry I have to go and lay down to get over it.
  20. Just finished Pied Piper. I must admit it got me quite emotional at times.
  21. Hey I take it back. Anything that is related to a Dingo has to be respected!! What the ____ are they doing in that picture...?
  22. I know I am being partizan but I bet an Airedale can kick a Toller's ass any day of the week. They are the best dogs and they look like teddy bears when their hair grows out.
  23. Used up my budget for february but I will get Stiff next month. I have Packing For Mars on my kindle already. I am enjoying reading Pied Piper at the moment.
  24. Oh yeah!! That's where I know it from ! I had forgotten.
