  1. Hi everyone, I can't believe I've only just found this forum! At last, a place to wallow in books with like-minded people - brill! My name is Barb, I started reading when I was four and haven't stopped since. I read a wide range of books, from Terry Pratchett to Charles Dickens (my two fave authors) and many, many more. I love anything to do with history, especially local, as well as science-based novels, but I do like books with a humourous tone too. My hubby and two sons don't read much, but my two year-old grandson loves books, so I'm impressed with his syle so far! Crazy fact about me - I LOVE the smell of books, always have... and have to sniff before I buy
  2. I used to lend books to friends quite happily, but since a few of my treasured copies have disappeared (one into a friend's dog!), I now refuse. I'll give books away if I don't want to keep them myself, but no more lending I'm afraid...
  3. Totally agree with the sentiment - I can't understand how people can live in a book-less home. I have a bag on which I embroidered a similar saying: 'A home without books is like a house without windows'.
  4. My hubby used to find my habit of reading in bed annoying, but after many years of marriage, he's resigned himself to the fact that a good book just has to be read, no matter what time of day or night it is. He's not a reader, sadly, but he is very tolerant and has learned how to sleep with the light on!
  5. I read this book as a teenager (I'd be around 13, I think) and found it wonderful. I have tried to re-read it since then, but it doesn't have the same feel: definitely a good read for younger readers, maybe not so hot for those of us with a more jaded outlook on romance!
  6. Jane Eyre is my favourite book of all time: I read it as a child and have re-read it a few times since then. The fictitious Lowood school and Brocklebridge Church were based on real buildings in my area, so that local link is pretty cool, too! Has anyone read 'The Professor'? - it's on my TBR list but I haven't got around to it yet.
