  1. Finished Echo Park. I'd give it 3/5. It was good, but the plot was a bit obvious. Not his best, but Michael Connelly's books are a high standard, so still pretty good

Now on to "Tripwire" by Lee Child

Books read this year = 22

  2. Hope you enjoy it, Ian - that's one of his best imo

Loved it! Scored 5/5 for me. I got most of his other books waiting for me on the Kindle, but my Mother-in-law had lent me a book a while back, so I wanted to read this before going back to the world of Reacher. So, my next book is Michael Connelly "Echo Park"

One thing that I did notice was that there were lots of spelling mistakes on the kindle version of this. Half the time "Reacher" was down as "Readier", which really got on my nerves after a while!

Books read this year = 21

  3. Finished the Alan Sugar book. At first I didn't think I was going to enjoy this, as it seemed to be one long rant about this and that, without any proper structure. Then it settled down and got much better.

I suppose that whether you like this book will depend on your opinion of Alan Sugar himself. In our house, The Apprentice is essential viewing, so I was always going to enjoy what he has to say. As you can imagine, he's not afraid to speak his mind!

    Books read = 20.

    Next - don't know yet!

  4. You can download all the short stories at a site called Project Gutenberg, which has books that are no longer in copyright. They have book in lots of different formats including Kindle.

There are lots of them, so you're gonna have to do some cramming!

    Good luck!

  5. I know I've seen this book at the library myself (The Billy Brown book that is) and have been tempted to get it. Now I know to avoid. There seems to be a whole section of books that thrive in libraries based on the fact that they have eye-catching titles, but are absolutely awfull books. I fell for a similar book titled " Up a tree at night in the park with a hedgehog".

Fantastic title I thought - it's bound to be really funny.

Wrong! (or Epic Fail, as my son would say)

Fortunately, we have this wonderful forum to "out" books like this!

  6. Well, a marathon reading session over the last couple of days saw me finally get to the end of The Old Curiosity Shop. I've read quite a few Dickens in the past, but knew next to nothing about the story of this, bar the famous Oscar Wilde quote about Little Nell. I really enjoyed this book. There's something about the way Dickens writes (and indeed other writers of this era) that really appeals to me. Having said that, it is a very long book , and the last chapter feels a little superfluous (it's fairly obvious how it's all going to end by then). Still, I really enjoyed it so I'm giving it 5 out of 5.

It is also the first book read on then Kindle

My count seems to have gone awry, but according to the list I've got of what I've read so far (Yes I really am that sad!) that was book 19.

Book 20, is a complete change of pace & subject

"The Way I See It" - By Alan Sugar

  7. That is really very kind of you, but you do realise I live abroad, right? I believe they would take a lot of space and they would weigh a lot so it would cost you a fortune to send them over and I really can't have you do that :) But thank you anyways, it was a really nice thought :smile2::flowers2: :flowers2:

You're welcome! I had realised you are in Finland, and I have no idea how much that would cost!

    Ian

  8. It's got to be Tom Clancy for me. The straw that broke the camel's back for me being "The Bear And The Dragon". I just got fed up the two-dimensional characters and the awful national stereo-typing that litters his books.

Also agree partially with the Mark Haddon comments. I enjoyed "Curious" but found "A Spot Of Bother" very ordinary. Shame.

  9. Managed to finish "Odyssey". It was a bit of a struggle at first, but the last few chapters flew by, and there was a very nice little twist at the end that I should have seen coming but didn't. So overall it's a 3/5

So I'm onto the very last QL book

Double or Nothing by C.J.Henderson (book 17)
