  1. Homemade cheesy bread with homemade garlic marinara sauce!
  2. Thank you very much! This helps a lot. Looks like he'll just have to jump in and get some experience.
  3. As this is a forum dedicated to books, books, books, I was thinking that some of you might review books for a living. My boyfriend and I both read a ton, and he is very interested in pursuing reviewing as a career. I am trying to learn about the job so I may be able to share some wisdom with him. Some of my questions are as follows: What is the nature of the job? How difficult is it to get a start in the field? Is it very important to have connections? Would he be able to support himself in this job? Any other miscellaneous advice? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!
  4. Phish Food by Ben & Jerry's!!!! YUM! It is dark chocolate fishes in chocolate ice cream, mixed with marshmallow and caramel....need I say more?
  5. It is a brilliant play. I had to read it for English class, and was so glad that it was assigned. It is coming to the Guthrie Theatre this spring and I am soooo hoping to go see it!!
  6. Could it be The House of the Scorpion? This was a book I read some time ago. I remember it being in Mexico and having a lot of the aspects that you have detailed here. Also I remember the old guy being an opium lord of sorts, and that the genealogy of the family in the book was very important. Let me know if I'm right, I'm curious to see!
  7. I think I remember reading a book along these lines when I was younger, however I believe the characters were animals or non-humans of some sort. Fairies maybe? If I'm on the right track I'd be happy to look into it for you.
  8. Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen really freaked me out. To be inside that woman's head was pretty weird...I almost didn't finish it because I didn't like thinking about it so much. It was pretty disturbing.
  9. I like reading plays, but only when I find characters to identify with or when the subject is especially interesting to me. For example, when I read "A Streetcar Named Desire" I absolutely loved it. The characters all had eerily attractive personalities...sort of like you didn't want to like them, but a part of you did. I think you are completely right on this point! I am a fairly slow reader, and I think that this helps me to understand the plot better and imagine the script in my mind as if it were on stage...i.e. the rooms all being visible from my perspective, the animated acting, etc. It gets pretty fun!
  10. Digital Fortress was not bad, though in my opinion it lacked the intrigue that I felt when I read both Angels and Demons and the Da Vinci Code. Still a good one, though, in my opinion! Anyone excited for The Lost Symbol?
  11. So do I! I also go see the play at the Guthrie Theater here in Minneapolis every year as well, which every year is fantastic...there is no better way to get into the spirit of giving than by reading A Christmas Carol.
  12. I am currently reading the Historian. I am an avid, though slow reader so I am reading it like crazy and am only slightly over half done. Despite this I am so intrigued by the story! I've been steadfastly against the current vampire hype revolving around the sickening Twilight series, yet I find myself fascinated by this story of Vlad Dracula.
