Sorry:lurker: it's hard not to be tempted, I'll admit - Brust comes recommended by Gaiman and quotes Milton, what more could one want? ETA: a recent trip to Forbidden Planet also informs me that it's one of them really strokeable books, too; and I'll readily confess to have bought more than one volume lured in by pretty texture. It's always worked in the past however, so why stop? -
Neverwhere and Anansi Boys are fantabulous, as indeed is Good Omens - I hope you get to read them all soon, Poppy . @ Kell: 'graphicness' is a real word !

Thank you ooops, isn't one a klutz! -
There might be some method in your madness yet, Stephanie Misery and P&P are amongst my favourite books ever, so who says they cannot go together?

Merciless Mount TBR has been adjourned with the following (which don't count as breaking rule n. 1, since they are the result of a gifted voucher and therefore not my fault ): - Laurie Sheck, A Monster's Notes - Patricia A. McKillip, Alphabeth of Thorn - Steven Brust, To Reign in Hell - Meredith Ann Pierce, The Darkangel (The Darkangel Trilogy 1) - Meredith Ann Pierce, A Gathering of Gargoyles (The Darkangel Trilogy 2) - Meredith Ann Pierce, The Pearl of the Soul of the World (The Darkangel Trilogy 3) - Daniel Waters, The Kiss of Life (Generation Dead 2) - Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451 (January Reading Circle) -

Couldn't decide on which edition of it I wanted (always the mark of a book I plan on liking a lot) so I - considering that -
Wahey, result if indeed you have already *shock, gasp & horror* thrown it out, may I recommend the My Penguin edition? It's an awesome, if sadly small, series of books they publish with blank covers so that you may let your imagination run wild and invent your own... I'll probably get one too some day, as the New Annotated Edition is far too big to lug around in a handbag!

It probably sprung to your mind as you half-remembered the old thread in which I looked for books on 'books, libraries, stories' - and in fact this does, I must say, sound completely and utterly like my cup of tea well done Chrissy . I am sorely tempted and will quite probably get it unless someone can convince me otherwise...! -
Now that the hyperanalytic reader in me likes the sound of. As someone who has posted in the first page of this thread, let me clarify my position I don't have anything against ebooks per se; I think they have their place and use. What I'm not so fond of is: - those who predict or wish that the ebook will one day entirely replace real books, and with books all notion of losing yourself in a bookstore for yours, scanning titles, stroking covers, dipping in and our of worlds to see which is to our liking that day; - the fact that they're fragile and attractive to thieves; therefore I wouldn't use one in the bath or dare take in on holiday with me. For how expensive they are, I could get 26 full-priced actual paperbacks, which can follow me anywhere and no one will want to steal. - a lot of useful (i.e. updated textbooks) or non-bestselling books are hard to come by in this format.

Book Club Forum Secret Book Santa?
BookJumper replied to Ceinwenn's topic in General Book Discussions
No problem although I'd reserve most of the thank yous and well dones for Chimera, after all it was she who single-handedly untangled the thorny issue of Santas and Santaees so that the surprise wouldn't be spoiled for all of us! That said, still no surprise for BookJumper the Royal Mail doesn't like me this year, it seems. -
Glad to see you're a woman of your word . Dracula and Stardust are amongst my favourite books of all time, I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. I'd also be interested in your thoughts on Archangel, as it's been on my wishlist for ages but (for reasons I cannot fathom) I keep pushing it back towards the bottom of said list - maybe your good opinion will help it rise again? Re: Basbanes, I'm yet to read his bibliophile series (though all of it is towards the top of the aforementioned wishlist), however my mother swears by A Gentle Madness and she's never been wrong in recommending me a book . What's the Oscar Wilde one all about, then? I love Wilde but have never heard about this one before...!

@ Kell - I love Death so I look forward to reading Reaper Man; the only reason I haven't already is that it's the Unseen Library edn. and collector's editions stay at home i.e. will never be put in my handbag for weeks on end. I also can't wait to go on a nice Jasper binge; just, he's the kind of writer to require 100% concentration and I seem to be lacking it at the moment . @ Scarlette: I'm feeling mixed omens about both of the books you mention also (although they are slightly less mixed in Ackroyd's case, as the man's academic nature counts in his favour in my ivory-towered worldview); we shall see how it goes ! -

BookJumper replied to demosinger's topic in Book Search and Reading Recommendations
Even if anyone here knew of a link to the book in question, seeing as it was published in the '80s and is therefore very much copyrighted, it would be highly illegal for the link to be published on these pages. Also, please take a minute to read the rules: we urge members to refrain from using 'text-speak'. -

Thank you I just wish Jasper had been a bit more considerate of my schedule in his signing tour arrangements !

I. am. jealous. He's in London on Jan. 18th but I'll be otherwise engaged on that very morning (I'm graduating, hardly something I can wriggle out of) so no signed copy of Shades of Grey for me *wails*!
